When your clock clicks to 0, you have 1 minute before you go into violation.

When running along the very edge, Plan B is kiss your arse goodbye. The more you run the limit, the more the odds are that you're going to fall.

I'm not OTR, and I cut it close pretty often. It can mean the difference between sleeping in my own bed or a motel. But all I have to do is get close to the barn and they'll send someone to get me, especially if I whisper the magic words "guarantee load" or "hazmat."

    How close?

I once had to sign off on a HOS Violation for one minute over.... Ugh... One minute... :-(

Guess that was just a bit too close... lol

If you guys are empty or bob tailing and you're cutting it close, you can throw that thing into off-duty driving and get home.

    Heh.
Switch to on duty when you stop at the bottom of the ramp, then go park.

This stunt was performed by a trained professional. Do not try this at home ...
    IMG_0381.jpg

I did several months ago because ...
    • I could ... had been sitting and running slow and accumulated some serious hours before getting this Bakersfield to Connecticut load of oranges and lemons
    • I wanted to prove it could be done
    • I was on a prime lane to do so and with good weather
I always had a plan B if an hour away looked improbable for target. I stayed at a truck stop each night. This is a 65 MPH truck.

I normally try and run down to somewhere between 10 and 11 hours if the hours are there and the running room is there, and the truck stop options are there. En route and cross country, I don't like sleeping in rest areas but will in rare circumstances. I will never sleep on a ramp. I also normally work my schedule where I'm parked before 16:00-17:00 when the run and schedule allow.

    tucker and Doing_flatbed_nc Thank this.
