IF a driver can't say NO....he/she is with the wrong company! Time to find a new gig and put on your big boy panties!
CJndaTruck Thanks this. -
Elogs don't push you to drive when your are tired. They don't push you to speed. They don't make you do anything. Those are a person's own bad decisions, not the elog.
Balakov100, CJndaTruck, dngrous_dime and 2 others Thank this. -
Yes they do spyder..And i'll tell you why.
All of these less than stellar truckload carriers care less about a drivers livelihood and welfare(A figured amount weekly to earn a living)
Drivers that work for these companies know this (Or will know really soon),,,
So in effect, If an electronic log says "Time to stop" and that driver only made $24 dollars for the day because these pisspoor carriers don't suppliment mileage pay with an adjacent hourly pay,..The Driver in turn suffers, And will Bypass a stupid logging device to ensure his/her family is taken care of FIRST.
So Yes, E-logs Dictate the salary of the driver...It will not work Unless these carriers start paying a reasonable salary to take in account of an E-log....
And i don't see it happening..YETPeter Griffin and Road Jouster Thank this. -
Stayinback, but the problem with that theory is all the megas have been using elogs for over a decade. Werner started with paperless logs in what? 93 wasnt it?
Will bad drivers make bad decisions? Absolutely. But the blame lies on the driver, not the elog. The elog doesn't force anything. The world will not stop if you drive the speed limit and pull over to sleep at night instead of driving when fatigued.Last edited: May 1, 2016
CJndaTruck and otherhalftw Thank this. -
I agree...This mileage and/or percentage pay that these carriers are paying isn't enough NOW, even with paper logs,,,,,,If everyone must do E-logs, somethings going to have to change, Yeah I know werner started years ago,,And thats why nobody makes a career over there, Pretty much all of these Non-union, irregular route carriers BEG for drivers, Because the smart folks aren't there.
Who's making the money? Everyone but the Driver..Who does the most work and time? The driver.
It only took me less than a year to figure out the riff-raff of being a "driver".......I knew at a young age that 1 had 2 choices in trucking to succeed...
1. Work for the union
2. Be an independent carrier or larger
I chose the Latter and created a success story for myself...
These drivers that are manipulated by the Rules and regs from these carriers will never live well....
Things MUST change..Nothing else to say.Peter Griffin Thanks this. -
The E-Log doesn't push anyone to drive...t is merely a reference to available HOS on any given day. When your tired, a brief catnap will do much. How/what we do/use the clocks is entirely up to the driver. Like the rule states, the 10 rule or any break rule does not guarantee rest/sleep, it merely guarantees the time to be available. It is illegal for a carrier to force anyone to run outside the clocks and break safe. Document occurrences or coercion, blow the whistle and/or move on. A seasoned drivers knows how to del with this, a less than seasoned is more challenged.

The only people that will struggle with elogs are the ones who don't have a clue how to manage their time.
dngrous_dime Thanks this. -
Pretty soon every driver will be on elogs, all the cheating will end and no more stopping at every exit to nap.
Sure the DOT will be occupied checking the hours on the 99 and older crowd,
It's not as bad as you think, the 10 hour break is great, and 14 hours is long enough for a work day. -
You state your position as if we are living in some socialist third world country where people cannot seek other employment to meet their needs. I constantly am amazed at how people will stay working for a company that they cannot make a decent living at, and then whine, holler, and find ways to put themselves and their livelihood in jeopardy in some attempt to make a living. What good is playing fast and loose with HOS, E-logs, etc if one gets in an accident where someone gets hurt and then they spend the next few years in an 8x10 cell looking thru the bars and never being able to drive commercially again? Or none of the very good carriers will hire them because they have racked up a stack of violations, all because they flaunted the regulations, again, out of some idiotic mindset that they have to do it to make a living. Just get on with another carrier that has their act together. True, there are "less than stellar carriers" out there, but no one is grabbed kicking and screaming and forced to drive for them. I rarely heard as much bellyaching from draftees in the Army back when there was a draft and they were forced to serve, and starting base pay was less than $100 month!Hammer166, CJndaTruck, ‘Olhand and 1 other person Thank this.
