A few months of hand-rolling gave me great forearms! But I finally made one of my own based on the one for sale, it just didn't dissassemble, and was slightly stronger. Loved it even after I ran over it! But another driver offered me $30 for it and I wanted dinner out, that night. Oh well. A few more weeks of hand rolling until I found one at a t.s. to buy. Really helpful when your straps are frozen!

Do the saftey guy in fargo still give out those little sticks with the 3 tips on the end? He is the saftey guy I believe. ..he gave me one...it sure came in handy..I didn't have to get on the trailer to put my strap protection on

YES Definitely!!! They come in handy for straps that don't come down on the other side when you throw them over a load or for threading straps through loads with openings in them (pallets) when you belly strap them. I have a piece of PVC pipe to put on the stick to help prevent it from bending.

04/22/14-Heading to Nacogdoches with pallets. I hate those straps! Sometimes when I throw them they don't go completely over the other side and if the strap isn't close enough to the edge for me to pull down with a stick, I have to pull the strap down and start again. It was pretty windy today so that could explain it some what. I think I put almost 22 straps on those pallets. On some of them I put 2 straps on and belly strap a few because the center of the pallets didn't always line up with the winch or the stake pocket got in the way. Oh well. It looks like I'm going to be driving through houston again.

I dont usually question or hesitate to over-secure, but 22 straps on pallets? Wow. Thats a lot of work, come unloading time! :biggrin_2553: 2 straps on front pallet, 2 straps on rear, 1 strap for each in between. How many pallets do you have?

IF you are pulling a 53', and IF you're loaded to the gills with 3' pallets, you'd have 2 rows of 17. That would usually take 19 straps....

    I have a 45' & I only have 18 straps on board!

I'm not making fun of you, reddove. I'm just trying to understand where your thoughts were on the subject.

And yes, I also hate pallets of bags or soft material! Experience will improve your strap throwing, but Murphy has a permanent residence on flatbeds! LOL

This was on a 53 foot step deck and the there wasn't enough ratchets on the trailer. The pallets were stacked pretty high and on a few pallet stacks I nearly used up all 30 feet of the straps. Those I added an extra strap to be on the safe side.
