I just checked on PA and NJ online toll calculators and I’m not seeing a discount solely for their residents.

New Jersey has discounts for I believe the Delaware Memorial Bridge and for the port authority and maybe even the other Bridges I don't know.

But I think there are specific plans for them and you have to cross those bridges a lot like 16 times a month.

I don't know if any of that applies to commercial vehicles.

You don't have to be a resident but you do have to get your EZ Pass from New Jersey.

    From the website:

Not only is E-ZPass the best way to travel, but you can also save up to 25%* on tolls at the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing.

*Applies to accounts at the E-ZPass New York and New Jersey Customer Service Centers only.

Port Authority Truck Volume Discount Plan (PATVD) offers an additional 10% discount on E-ZPass non-peak toll rates for E-ZPass customers with NY or NJ commercial accounts who make 100 or more Port Authority New York-bound trips during non-peak hours within a monthly statement cycle. Discounts will be credited directly to qualifying accounts each month without requirement to register for the program.

All E-ZPass transactions for account holders at the E-ZPass New York and New Jersey Customer Service Centers are discounted from the cash toll rate at Port Authority crossings, but motorists save the most by traveling in off-peak hours. The discounted E-ZPass Off-Peak toll for Class 1 vehicles (two axles and single rear wheels) is $11.75. Peak hours at Port Authority crossings are weekdays from 6 – 10 a.m. and 4 – 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Trucks can save even more by traveling during weekday overnight periods, from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. the following morning, excluding Friday and Saturday evenings. See toll chart for a full listing of toll rates for the details.

I’d give them a call to confirm this. It seems like they’re only talking about the EZPass, which also covers bridge tolls in several states.

The off-peak rates are also part of the EZPass. It sounds like you have never used an EZPass.

I've never seen the bumper mounted version of Ezpass?

I looked at some pictures, and it’s mostly on car license plates. They really need to have it inside because anyone can steal them.

I have used them plenty but on my own commercial truck, no.

t's really about the bill. The website sounded like to get any of those discounts you have to have an EZ Pass from New Jersey or New York.

On the application they ask you if you want a Bumper Mount or interior. Every truck I ever drove had it on the interior.

I was just wondering if there were any changes or if having it mounted on the bumper or the roof or whatever made it read more accurately.

I also primarily stay in the Northeast.

Get a NY EZ Pass business account, you'll get the most discount with it. One trip on the thruway will save you more than any other state discount. Forget about the commercial account unless you are running multiple trucks. Volume discounts on the bridges are for like 100 crossings a month kind of deal, not for the solo guy.

I use the bumper transponder because the interior windshield doesn't seem to work, I think it might be the material in the windshield..not sure. But I went through three window transponders before finally getting a bumper unit, now no more missed tolls.

    The City.

It bolts to the license plate using the same bolt holes. I have them on both my trucks bc the window mounts were not always working bc of the stainless visors..... the bumper mount reads about as often honestly, and I could hand the window mount out the window to a toll booth attendant which I can’t do with a unit bolted to the plate near as easy. Bumper mount is not really any better imo

Where you go makes a lot more difference than where you’re from. nj gives a discount on nj tolls, the discount on tolls into the city is paltry (I had one for years and thought it was the best til I saw a buddy’s bill with a NY ezpass and I switched all mine) in comparison to a NY ezpass. Savings are all in where you operate, nothing about where you are from.

I probably should get a New Jersey E-ZPass then.

I'm trying to stay mainly Pennsylvania New Jersey Delaware and Maryland.

If New Jersey gives a better discount for New Jersey tolls I would probably do better that way.

I can always change it around if my plans change.
