Let us know how things go today. Take some pics of available trucks if you can. Thanks
-
No trailer yet. I'm waiting right now for the keys. I have to head over to Kenworth to get a closet rack installed. Then off to Eagle. Then off to Butler. Then pray it's a trailer up there so I can get back to it. Almost ready to roll!truck medic Thanks this.

Signed the lease today. Correction, read then signed the lease. It is an A-typical lease deal. If you've never done this before prepare yourself. If you have it's business as usual. Two Escrows. If their are more I haven't seen then. The escrows are $1,500 a piece and come out at $50 per week till you reach the totals. Total with insurance so far I'm looking at $950. I thought it was a 0.07 cent per mile maintanence but that is what the second escrow is for, I'd advise keeping another account just in case. Or maybe the 0.07 per mile is for used? I will be able to give full details once I'm back at the room. With the trailer being 175 per week I should be around $1,125 per week fixed expenses.
Reality check though, won't know for certain what all the fees are until that settlement that is charged for everything that comes out. Fixed expenses start immediately. Truck payments don't start for 17 days.
These leases come down to knowing your math, how and when to fuel, and good ole fashioned elbow grease. L/O, O/O, and Independence isn't for everyone.RERM, Kryptonite82 and truck medic Thank this. -
Well day 2 is done, went over to see the trucks and we were told that the only thing new for Eagle people is the Lone Star in white, quality leasing folks let us look at the used trucks and most of what they had were the Pro Stars 12-13, one '07 Pete (leased) with a rusty Cat engine, one Volvo 670 (leased) one 13 Cascadia (leased), so basically if you wanted a used truck this week, it would have to be a used Prostar with the MaxxForce engine. I settled for the all white Lone Star. Orientation is a little disorganized, but not bad, make sure your application is accurate so you can sign off on them day one, on the road test, watch your speed in the school zone (25 mph), do not shift gears on the railroad track, one guy failed and was sent home for that reason.
Like I said, this week, white Lone Stars is all they have for Eagle people, next week that may change. -
Uhh ... excuse me ... You're going to tell me a lease is about knowing your math ... yet you signed a lease without knowing your ... what is it? Oh, yeah your math.
That's been the whole point of my questioning here. To to get to the nuts and the bolts, where're the costs? What is the structure and policies in place governing the relationship - with brokers? What is god's name is the purpose of the DMs - because in an O/O/broker oriented operation they have no place.
You want to talk about how to know when and where to fuel ... well what does that lease you just signed say about fuel? What are the discounts if any? What are the transactions fees? Are you limited to their fuel card? Can you use your own? Is there a discounted fuel network? If so, are there penalties for going out of network? How is IFTA managed? Is it based off your mileage or a fleet mileage? Do you get a detailed summary of your IFTA account?
These are just some of the items that should be part of detailed business model going in, before you sign the lease. Then it should just be a matter of checking boxes to ensure that everything is as it should be ... it is not something that you wait for your first settlement, to find out for sure what it is ... your first settlement should be a review to ensure that it is what it should be.T_TRUCKERâ¢, Kryptonite82 and truck medic Thank this. -
In a nutshell sir, IF I'm going to be charged anything not in the contract I will know on that first settlement. Fuel discounts? I don't remember anyone here saying anything about a discount? My "math" is about knowing my operating costs and how many miles to the gallon I get pen and paper. DM's? I could care less about them. I just got all the info and the ok to sign up for ITS today. Not sure why some people claim I couldn't.
Got three 52 week leases under my belt. I have my math together. Sorry if I'm unable to answer your questions to your satisfaction. I haven't ran my first load yet. But here is an example of what I'll be looking for on that first settlement. At ATS one charge that is not in the contract is settlement processing. It's $1.25 per deduction and credit. Example:
Fuel: $396.00
settle srvc $1.25
Fuel Srch: $125.00
settle srvc $1.25
qualcmm: $11.00
settle srvc $1.25
etc etc
This, and expenses like this are what I'm looking for.
Question? Have you ever done this before? -
Most assuredly ... I've done 2 contracts with Swift and all the charges were detailed before I got the contract, everything that was detailed was in the contract and there was and is nothing on my settlement that was not in the contract.
Right now, based on what I've feathered out this thread, I would have to gross $200K at Eagle, to clear the same net I do with Swift.
But my post was less to the point about the specific questions ... but more about your implication that leases are about the math and good old fashioned elbow grease ... Yet you seem to have a rather laissez faire approach to the details of running a business ... i.e. it's important to know what you're spending, but I'll know what I'm spending, when I'm spending it.
But I do have a more specific question ... of course you signed up with ITS, Eagle has nothing to do with whether you can or not, anybody can do that. You're paying bill, not Eagle. The real issue I've seen over and over here is what about the brokers. Did they give you a the list of brokers you can use? Did they give the contact information for the brokers ... I really don't care who the actual brokers are. I'm more concerned about how well organized and effective the process is ... What's been posted here, is lot about the DMs being inserted into the process and the actual information about the brokers being withheld ... can you shed some light on that.RERM Thanks this. -
Wont know the sitrep with the brokers till I do the process for myself. I guess I do seem lazy with my approach. Happens when something becomes second nature I guess. Most of my orientation class is already talking about turning their tractors in. So far three are actually making it work. Smh, I really don't know what else to say about it. All I know is this. I've won this rodeo before.
