I was joking. Don't call me.
The peg I saw was very strong looking and it's like a T40 that it is replacing. So striping out threads may mean thread lock was necessary.
Easier Way to Get a Range?

That's an awful lot of weight to be held in place by such a small Bolt which will easily break if you hit a bird.skellr Thanks this.

That is actually an old style. They will break if you over tighten them. The threaded section is quite skinny and weak. Tighten them just enough to keep them in place (with the antenna covered in ice) and no more.rabbiporkchop and Intothesunset Thank this.

Lol! Touché! I've actually already switched to "Hey guys, I've got a new radio setup here. Looking for range reports." Seems to be more effective as you suggested.
RightChannelRadios tells me they have a mount that would work with my truck. It's called "2017+ ProComm Cascadia CB Mirror Mount" for $29.95 but they don't have a page up for it yet. They've had to go and create a customized invoice for me.Intothesunset and skellr Thank this. -
I'm thinking about making one.

I check my mobiles when possible against my home base. I'll have a bored family member give me checks as I drive away or I'll put a voice-activated recorder next to the base station and call out reference points from my mobiles.
handlebar, skellr and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
The easiest and cheapest way to double or triple your range is to remove the radio from the Freightliner Cascadia and install it in a Chevy Suburban with antenna bolted to the center of the roof.
Problem solved.jdchet and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I hate radio checks. People with nothing better to say and nothing to talk about but want something to do ask for a radio check. I've lost count the times I've heard someone running in the same direction ask for a radio check every time they hear someone talk. Not even waiting for a break in the conversation before asking. Its just , "radio check", "radio check", "radio check"...... "Radio check" ....... ..... "RADIO CHECK"... etc...
I suppose it depends on how you ask. "I'm at mile marker so-and-so, how far am I getting out?", "Anyone copy me from the so-and-so yardstick?". Anything but "radio check". "What time is it?"
I'm probably jaded, but,I know I'm not the only one. There are quite a few that have thier radios on but rarely respond. We hear so many radio checks leading to nothing that they just get ingnored.
Asking for a "bear report" might be a better way to get your foot in the door.Windmill Hill, FlaSwampRat and rabbiporkchop Thank this.
