I believe the attendant when they flip the green light it temporarily disables the ez-pass. You shouldn't get charged twice since if you paid cash they had to set the green light for you to proceed. But if you didnt keep the receipt and you do get charged twice, youll be out of luck. But the machine should have automaticallyy registered you paid when the attendant gave you the green light and not charged you again. But hey, to error is human, but it takes a computer to realy screw things up.....

That's why the have you put them in the window, so the machine can detect them easier. Being in the glove box will most times keep the detectors from registering the pass. And sometimes not.......

I didn't miss the point, you said "I wanted to pay in cash, as I was unsure about the funds on the account". I just clarified how it works for people who don't have it or should read how it works when they get it.

I went into the cash lane because that's where they directed us with an accident in the ezpass lanes, I was willing to pay but my ezpass was detected and I got a green light.

    You'll be charged 2x

If you think your balance is low, run the ezpass lane anyway. Orange light between stop n go will light up, or message will blink
    "Account balance low"

You keep driving and make a deposit in the near future to cover any outstanding balance.

Oh, I see. I do not even own the car so I didnt want to risk getting someone a ticket. Really.. I didnt want to charge anything at all with their ezpass even if it had plenty of funds. I honestly had no idea the ezpass thing was on my car until the lady at the booth pointed it out !
I understand thanks for the help.

just gave her 1.65 in cash.
