Very true but so many drivers..especially route drivers...are under the gun and have little time to do this...
and before someone says it..NO there should not be regulations on this issue...
The water suggestion is great and I do that myself...but being an alcoholic (sober 12 years) I have to have my coffee and plus to help wake up....as do millions of other folks..

Good for you to sober up. That must of been tough. I used to have to have a monster energy drink when I woke up before I drive. If not I was grouchy and would start nodding off. The gnc stuff I take kinda replaces that and gives me the boost I need to get going. Not everyone can do it cause of HBP though. But there are natural supplements too. Being on the gun worked for me more when I was local cause I didn't eat much. Then went to LTL linehaul start packing on the lbs. Now I've lost 20lbs in 8 weeks and from 2yrs ago went from 263lb to 209lbs at 5'5" and went from a 3 month dot card to a 2yr. I love trucking, so I didn't want to lose my way of life so I mentally focused. Now I look back and I'm like that was alot easier then I thought. Just takes the desire and determination. If its not working don't give up and keep grind'n. I got more weight to lose too so I'm not done yet either.

Well OTR is what we do. All we will probably ever do. Can't afford to be picky in this economy. You are so right about the water, I have been drinking so much water every day for so long, if I skip a glass I feel dehydrated:)

My linehaul is like Otr but I can hit the gym everyother day when I get back from a layover. It's the only real difference. I sit on my butt for 8-14hrs driving. I packed on 15lbs cause of my diet. I did Otr for 5 yrs. All it takes is a good pair of running shoes and run 1/2 mile or 1 mile or even walking. Dont have to do a 5 mile death run just something active for 30 min. Takes 30 min a day. People get done driving jump in the sleeper and sleep for 12hrs. When your metabolism is slow it's easy to sleep. I could sleep all day when I was bigger. Now I sleep 5-7hrs then I'm wide awake. If I got forced back Otr, I would jog for 30min 5-6days a week cause I know how much sleep I really need.

    Thanks pal :)
I see trucking like this...it has its health dangers period..like coal mining...no matter what folks try to do it is not going to really change much... I love driving too but know that if I kept this up say another 10 years..I might end up dead.

Cut your soda even diet soda is bad, Cut white breads, Limit fruit, some not lots only a piece or two per day, veggies are your friend. Walk At least 30 minutes everyday. Increase water and green tea. Nuts are good snacks but not to many. Meals several small meals are far better than large meals. Chicken and Fish become your staples more than beef. Lean beef is alright but only a couple of times per week. Cut any food with nitrates completely, nitrates are used as a preservative and are poison(Bologna, Hot Dogs prepackages meats, read the labels).

Fill your cooler with water, fruit, and lean meat. Go to Walmart to buy chips and anything else. Only buy enough for one week at a time. This coolers can be very unpredictable. Buy a lunchbox heater to warm your food too. Works great for canned soups.

Exercise is the big key. I agree with this.

take supplement from like gnc to give you energy to get you thru your shift. I don't agree with this, BAD ADVICE....Try eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and eating healthy snacks in between. Supps should only be used to supplement your healthy eating habits. Hech why there called Supplements and not called food. You shouldnt be popping pills or drinking your meals to give you energy or met some cal needs...if your eating healthy you should have all the energy you need to make it through the day... your body will start to respond in a positive way.

Of course everyone has advice, consult a doctor and do what works for you.

Folks should avoid those energy drinks...shots or whatever.
I have seen and know a few guys who actually had heart attacks as a result of using these.
