Pretty sure the top two gears in my transmission are on the way out. Makes a internal grinding noise only in that gear, it’s the 1850 18spd model. Tried a search but no luck on what I’m looking for. My question is to those who have done this, is it worth the money to upgrade to a 2050 or 2250 rating transmission or stick with the 1850 and throw in a reman? My truck is pushing 900hp is why I’m asking this. Thanks for any replies guys.
Eaton 18spd upgrade question?

I just looked at going to a 2050 from an 1850, anticipating in building my motor up stouter in the future, needed a tranny now.
It was pretty dang pricey.Dino soar, Shawn2130, djb379pete and 2 others Thank this. -
Reman 1850s are cheap and hold up good. Got a customer that dynoed 860 at the tires with 1.5 million k on an RTLO18918B. I cant see it being worthwhile to go up to an 2050 unless you cant keep an 1850 together. Most of the longevity is related to the guy behind the wheel rather then the engine power.

I had an 1850 grenade on me after being rebuilt and in my truck for only a year. Lost the bighole gear underneath a superload heading to O'Donnell,TX. It cost me $10300 for an RTLO22918B installed.
The down time cost me more than the cost of the transmission. The shop in Lubbock had it in their mind to rebuild in order to get more money in labor. I ordered the 2250 because it was less down time and it was stronger than the 1850.Flint1, 650cat425, djb379pete and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks pushbroom, that’s prob what I’m gonna go with again and a 2050 easy pedal clutch like I’ve had in her. I figured I’d ask for some input before wasting money on a bigger trans if it’s actually not needed.
650cat425 Thanks this. -
Even the old 15 speeds were rated low and held up relatively well behind a fueled-up 3408.
I concur with the above, its more the driver than anything (to a point of course!)Dino soar, Brettj3876, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this. -
Thanks Triplesix, I’m gonna go with a 2050 trans for right now just because a friend has a reman Weller and will take mine as a core so it will save me a lot of downtime right now. My trans guy is booked up heavily this week and he wants 2500 to rebuild mine but probably can’t touch it for two weeks.
650cat425 Thanks this. -
Many a RTO 12513 and 14613s behind big hp back then.Dino soar, 650cat425, spsauerland and 1 other person Thank this.

There was a dude on a Facebook cat engine group im in that was on his 4th tranny since December. Guessing he was around 800fwhp gibe or take a hundred. He kept losing 17th and 18th. He had tried a 1850 and 2050 and wasn't making him much difference. Dont know what his deal was, everyone said driver abuse but I'm not sure how you abuse top gear? He said he always kept his rpm up around 1500.

Wrong ride height?
You'd think he'd try something else by now lol i sure wouldn't blow 4 of em. Say what the temps were by chance
