With all the new automated manual technology coming around through Eaton, does anyone here have any solid information if the true manuals will be a thing of the past with automatics taking over completely or does the manual transmission still have life left? Thank you.

Lots of life left for manuals. In all honesty, automatics are still trying to break through. There is more and more of them every year, but manuals will be around for a long time yet.

The company that I work for got rid of all of their manuals because the automatics cut their maintenance and repair costs significantly. Drivers were ripping the clutches and drivetrains out of the manual trucks regularly. Newbies and experienced drivers alike. The auto shifts cured that problem.

Absolutely will never be a thing of the past. Why would it be? There will never be a shortage in demand for manual transmission. There are far too many truckers that will never step foot in a automatic trans truck. Professional truckers love the ability to be able to have full control of the truck and chose the gear they want. I personally drive 18 speed and couldn't imagine life without it. Manual trans keeps you focused and alert. Putting a truck in drive and going puts me to sleep just thinking about it. I enjoy driving manual. The same reason truck manuals will never go away is the same reason you can always purchase a car with manual.

i think they will go the to the wayside. just like manuals in a car, have now. yeah they will still be out there but they wont be offered in everything and will have to be custom ordered to get one. i have heard volvo and mack doesn't dealer stock manual transmission truck anymore. (not sure if that's true or not) there still be a lot of manuals out there for a long time yet but i would say a lot of new drivers now might never drive a manual transmission truck in there career

I live local to several dealers, mack, peterbilt etc. Thes guys don't stock much of anything, most buyers order what they want in the configuration they want. Even so, that auto is very pricey and you don't see many in stock compared to stick around here. Eaton will definitely not got out of business and there is no reseason for mack, pete, Volvo, freightliner, to drop eaton. It costs them nothing to install the trans people want. So in my opinion there isn't much to debateToomanybikes Thanks this.

There will come a time when you will have to pay extra to get a manual.

Even if carriers drop them completely, custom O/O trucks should have the option at the least.

Auto shifts are expensive to repair. Manuals will not leave the industry, unless a new design arises. The current autos are not sufficient enough for all around workloads. Auto shifts in their current form will def. be replaced.cmrdev and Toomanybikes Thank this.
