Actually, when using a computer log program, you are required to print and sign it each day. So, you would not be fiddling with it at the DOT.

We use Eclipse, and love it. Very easy to use. Hubby is computer challanged and some of the other ones we tried were not as user friendly.

As for the printer, we have a wireless Lexmark in the truck. That way we don't have cables running everywhere. Just the power cord.

So far, so good. Been using it for a few months now.

QualComm elogs... only had one DOT ask about it. Just handed him the terminal set on the graph page. He looked at it for a moment, then said, "OK, you're good!"

Well, yeah! I knew that!! :biggrin_25522:

I'll address some of these since I have been using DDL for over 14 years, and I was one of the original "BETA testers" when Nick first wrote the program.

    • Even though there is no "on-line" back-up for DDL, Nick encourages users to back-up EVERY DAY on a removable media source, like a flash drive. Really simple to do.
    • DDL DOES have a GPS "plug-in" that will also determine the nearest city if you are plugged into a GPS unit.
    • DDL does not "automatically" allow you to save your logs to "file", but if you install a simple "FREE" program called CutePDF* you can "print" your logs as a PDF file and email them.
    • DDL does have numerous "print modules" that allow you to print your logs in just about every Companies format.
    • DDL supports 8 day/70 hr, 7 day/60 hr, "short-haul", long haul, passenger, Canadian Rules, split sleeper, team driving, 34 hr resets and every other variable.
    • DDL cost $95** for a "4 Driver" license. If you have a back-up computer, the license allows you to install it on that computer also. You are allowed to transfer your license to your new computer, or the same computer when there are "hardware" changes (such as a BIOS update or a new HD)
    • If there is a change in DOT rules, you DO NOT have to purchase a new license. You only need to download the updated program.
    • Support is only via email (although I have Nick's phone number <neener neener neener>)
DDL is capable of 87 different "Reports":

    Daily Miles

    1. Miles Driven Report

    2. Miles Driven Report -- Only MPH Violations Report

In the interest of FULL DESCLOSURE:

    * CutePDF I also use CutePDF when dispatch (or a shipper) requires 'Proof of Delivery'. I scan the signed BOLs with my KODAK Printer/Scanner and save as a PDF, which I can then email. It gives a much cleaner image than does "faxing" using truck stop machines, plus it saves the outrageous fees they charge.

** $95.00 When I first started using DDL, it was a FREE program. I was asked to "test-drive" the three available (at the time) programs and write a comprehensive report by OOIDA.
I downloaded the other two competing programs (one of which was Eclipse....I believe). I found DDL to be simpler to use and in my report, I stated that DDL was a far better program at any price (The other's full price's were about $45, I think).

Been using the Eclipse Logbook for about 6 months...DOT asked to see my log book and handed him my 3 ring binder and told him I can print out todays log page and he said I am not the one he was looking for and I was outa there on less than a minute...Well worth the cost to have printer/scanner in the truck...Also works good to scan and send BOL's and invoices and get paid days sooner....I looked at DLL and looked like a good program but did more than I need it to do...

Yes, I have had pretty much the same DOT experience with DDL that you report. And I SWEAR DDL has more than once prevented me from getting a ticket.
Once at the DUNSMUIR Scales, I was over-length. When I showed my logs (on the screen of my lap-top), the Officers were so impressed with the simplicity and completeness of the program, they called in the "Inspectors" from the Inspection Bay to see the program.
When it was all-said-and-done, they told me to set my trailer tandems to the proper setting, and go on (down the road).
