So W&S allows the use of Eclipse? I asked about DDL a couple of months ago and they didn't allow that.

Did you say WS could download Eclipse Logbook free? Is it a demo or full version. I work for WS too.

Anyone can download the 30-day trial. I checked and W&S has not requested a custom template for their drivers yet, but any company can do that if they so choose. It is up to each company if they accept electronic logs as an alternate method to the paper method, but that doesn't stop drivers from using to make sure their paper is correct / free of violations before turning in their logs.

Another Eclipse vote.. it has impressed more then one DOT officer.. only had one ever ask me to print out todays .. But I print out 2 copies every day.. one goes in 3 ring binder.. the other goes to company.. I have never had a violation ever!!.. and it does all the math for you..

I heard that a couple of times this week doing support. It didn't used to be that way 2 years ago, but the inspectors are getting very familiar with it and I hear more and more that much of the time they don't even care to have a printout.
Here's a couple of other tips:
1. If you have a USB or an internal GPS receiver you can make the logbook automatically enter your location while doing an entry.
2. Many companies are now accepting electronic signatures and getting your log sheets by email. Just download CuteFTP so you can turn them into PDF files instead of printing them. Then just email them in. This is replacing the old TripPak, especially among the smaller companies.
3. Don't forget to back up your logs periodically either to a flash drive or to the web. It's amazing how many drivers don't do that and lose all their logs if their laptop crashes or gets stolen

I use the online backup.. bout once a month.. I keep all my hard copies..for my records.. I just sign my logs with the pencil thingy.. DOT has never said a word..but if you think about it.. it is still hand signed right? I did buy a printer that does not use much ink.. I had a lexmark and it sucked ink, only would get bout 75 pages. I bought a HP..and I get 200 + pages on the cheap ink..
The last inspection I had.. the officer..just glanced at it.. and said he wished all drivers would use it.. lolDieselboss and wulfman75 Thank this.
