You may have heard about Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBRs). The use of EOBRs to record hours-of-service information is not yet authorized by the safety regulations, but it has been formally proposed. An EOBR is more complex than an AOBRD and, if approved, may use new technologies such as Global Positioning Systems to automatically record additional hours-of-service information. "This is per FMCSA"

Manual logbooks should be filled out at every stop to cover you badonkadonk!!

I'm using their paid version. My company loves them as the auditing software they use comes from Eclipse and thus is compatible.

    Good buy

You don't have to have a printer. If you had a printer in your truck, and it would piss off the DOT, then QUALCOMM would not exist in trucks, because if you are running QUALCOMM and they ask for your 8 days, you have to fax it to them which if I were the DOT I'd be irritated about having to wait for a fax (some will scan through the QUALCOMM, but from what I hear, they'll just wave you on if you have a QUALCOMM as they just don't want to mess with). I mean really, the card you have to have to teach them how to use it makes it look easier than it really is..

I have a laptop and a printer in my truck but every time I get checked the DOT are happy just looking at the laptop. All the pages are there for easy ref: never had a problem, and they have never asked for print out.

I drove with People Net which is going to replace Qualcomm or at least the is my understanding. I also carry my laptop and I have Eclipse Logbook. I carry a HP 7520 printer scanner fax with me. You must be able to print out the logbook if asked by DOT. I have never had them ask me to do so. The reason behind this is because E logs are so very easy to change after the fact. Qualcomm and the like are not controlled by the driver. They are controlled at the company. They are the ones who have to print out logs for DOT during audits.

I am starting next week with a company that is still on paper logs for most of their trucks. This will put me back on my laptop for logs full time. The main advantage is that i can quickly make my changes that are needed and the DOT can actually read what is on the logs. They like the fact that the computer is much easier to read then my hand writing.
