Welcome…. I just use a pair of side cutters or heavy wire cutters as some call them, and cut it in the middle. Only have to flex it just a little to slip the strap through and move on. Less time involved than threading the strap all the way through. I usually throw my straps, secure the dead end and leave a little slack so I can place the edge protectors and then tighten it up. Works good for what I do….cke, Ruthless, shooter19802003 and 6 others Thank this. -
Bought those a few years sgo down in South Carolina. Was on my way from Philly to Jacksonville, then to St. Joe Michagan and back to Philly.
For some applications they are nice to anchor in to the chain pull ups and secure the load before getting off the trailer….cke, shooter19802003, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this. -
When in doubt use edge protection. It takes seconds to put up.
buy or build a tool to help stick it up in high places also.

I learn stuff from these guys here every time I log in. Also watching some of the folks on the road. Easy to tell who has their stuff together.cke, shooter19802003, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 3 others Thank this. -
These are called Chain Anchor Winch Straps:
They help increase the flexibility you need to have when securing freight with different configurations. I often used them mostly when hooked to a StepDeck trailer because the wheel wells usually had a spool for a chain to hook onto, but neither a winch or a spot that a flat hook could attach to because the wheel wells were just metal humping over the wheel area, and sometimes, where the layout of the load was, I'd have to and want to put securement right there. Since the back wheels have a lot of movement and vibration, it makes sense to keep a tiedown right over it, and often, this was the only way to do that. With a Chain Anchor Ratchet and Chain Anchor Straps, you could do the job with only spools to hook the chain onto:
Spend some of your downtime checking out different Cargo Securement equipment sites and you'll be drooling over the toys they have to do the job.cke, TooTiredToTalk, Czar_Zero and 5 others Thank this. -
They're gratings and you should definitely use edge protection. Sometimes they're galvanized and that causes more sharp protrusions too.

Agreed…. Those questioning what you said need to handle galvanized grating without gloves , but very carefully….cke, GYPSY65, ProfessionalNoticer and 4 others Thank this.
