Plus they wonder why we keep forgetting stuff. Because it went from about a 5 step process for everything to about 50 steps, and nothing is all together, it's spread out all over the place. Hit this tab, put this info in, this tab, this tab, this drop down menu add this, now go to this tab and enter the same dang thing you just entered on under that other tab. Effing tedious crap.

Want to hear a bit more about the new logging rules. According to the FMCSA web site when you are sitting in a dock you are not going to be able to log it in the sleeper bearth any longer. You will have to log in on duty. Got to love the Federal Govt cutting back again on how one makes a living.

log OFF duty as I understood it.
On-duty time Includes any time in CMV except sleeper-berth. New change-- Does not include any time resting in a parked vehicle (also applies to passenger-carrying drivers). In a moving property-carrying CMV, does not include up to 2 hours in passenger seat immediately before or after 8 consecutive hours in sleeper-berth.

Cannot log off duty while in loading dock. Off duty means you are away from the truck and relived of all duties and responsibility.

Show me the law, or where to find it. Saying it doesn't mean anything.

Still being in Phase Three with the company obviously indicates that I don't know jack at this point, but my OTR Trainer told me that, when at the Shipper or Consignee, the only two choices are to be either in the Sleeper Berth or On Duty because you cannot be Off Duty when at either location.

Nice card to carry but Roehl has not issued anything like that in the past. Read the 2nd half of the card. Will not relieve you of responsibility while in dock.

This quote is from the FMCSA's web site that has a new booklet called Interstate Truck Driver Guide to HOS.

On-Duty Time In a Commercial Motor Vehicle

EffectiveFebruary 27, 2012, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration excluded from the definition of on-duty time any time resting in a parked commercialmotor vehicle, with the driver relieved of all responsibility for the vehicle.

Bayle you forget the words of "with the driver relieved from all responsibility forthe vehicle" in your quote. In dock you still have responsibility.

    What Is Off-Duty Time?
By understanding the definition of on-duty time, you will get a good idea of what is considered off-duty time. In order for time to be considered off-duty, you must be relieved of all duty and responsibility for performing work. You must be free to pursue activities of your own choosing and be able to leave the place where your vehicle is parked.

If you are not doing any work (paid or unpaid) for a motor carrier, and you are not doing any paid work for anyone else, you may record the time as off-duty time.
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/topics/hos/index.htm Downloaded off of HOS Reference Materials on the left hand side of the page.

Since currently we are required to be with the truck while it is being unloaded or loaded and can not leave the area to pursue other activities it means that they can hold us to line 4 while in the dock. We are technically still doing work for the company. Now I agree that we should be able to log sleeper time if we are in the sleeper actually resting while loading/unloading and I know that we all log sleeper berth but things could get sticky in the future. I sure the companies are going to come up with something since being on line 4 cuts into a driver's daily productivity therefore the company's bottom line.
