The big question is, have ELDs made things safer?

    I don't think so.

Parking on interstate ramps and shoulders, certainly not safe.

I see just as many accidents, and I'm guessing, but I'd say the numer of accidents has increased, not decreased, since last December. I see drivers driving more recklessly than before... they're playing beat the clock. You better be paying attention when walking around in the truckstop..you're likely to get run over by some guy racing to get parked before he's in violation.

It's noticeably worse in congested areas during peak traffic. I'm more likely to wait it out now than before.

Elds don't force a driver to park on a ramp or shoulder.

Thats one way to do it. Me, i prefer to utilize proper scheduling of pick ups and deliveries and trip plan so I'm parked legally

And that's all well and good...until life happens and screws up your precious plan. Murphy's Law states that anything that CAN go wrong WILL go wrong...and if you were to plan for every contingency imaginable, you'd be trip planning 23-1/2 hours per day. And if you're under the impression that Murphy's Law doesn't apply to your operation, you're only fooling yourself. Stuff happens, and sometimes there just isn't a practical way to avoid it.

Yes stuff happens so you need to be prepared to adjust your plan accordingly.

I'm not saying i love elds, but im really tired of all these posts blaming the eld for their poor decisions. Elds do not make you drive through the fuel islands at 30 mph. Elds do not make you take your 30 minute break at the fuel pump. Elds do not make you sleep on ramps and shoulders or on the street in bad ares of the city. Elds do not make you go 5 days without a shower.
