I mean 40 percent seems like a big number but I really can't say. I wonder what they say the average wait time to load and unload is. To me that's the only thing that is most unavoidable. If I can, I'll wait out rush hour traffic.

You can indeed DRIVE (legally) 14 hours a day. Start at midnight for example. Stop at 8am (8 hours driving so far). Take a 10 hour break. Go back to driving at 6pm and drive until midnight (6 more hours) = 14 hours in a day...
And anyone that says "you will do this or that" without knowing what company you are working for, and what job you are doing is talking out of their ###...
I have been driving since 1984 with a CDL (farm trucks since 1965, and army trucks since 1975). I have worked for a lot of companies doing a lot of things. OTR refer, OTR dry van, LTL city, LTL linehaul, CDL instructor. dedicated mail run. city mail run (back and forth from Minneapolis main PO to and from the airport 5 times a night), and owner operator.
There isnt just 1 set of driving rules for drivers. It all depends...surf_avenue, tnt440 and Val_Caldera Thank this.
