That stands for Bureau of Motors Vehicles. That wasn't a typo, man. It's DMV (Department of Transportation) or DDS (Department of Driver Services) certain places. It's BMV or DPS (Dept of Public Safety) in certain regions.

Fair warning since you mentioned it, attempts to automate trucking are already underway. I do not think most trucks will be autonomous in the near future, but they're already on the road, and at some point it's probably going to lead to job losses in some sectors. Stuff like dedicated routes or terminal to terminal shuttle deals are probably going to be the first jobs to go. At this time it is mostly old technology being presented as a game-changing breakthrough (how else would bunch of no name small startups have all "developed" it at the same time?) but nobody can say what's possible in the far future. I'm biased because I pull a skateboard, but flatbed has one extra layer of work for you to do, and it is therefore going to be somewhat more difficult to eliminate the driver. The securement scares a lot of people away but it really isn't that bad.
