I've been using a Ring Central fax line for 4 years. No problems with it and like the web interface for sending faxes. Incoming can be downloaded/viewed with their application (both computer and smart phones). I also get them as a pdf attachment on an email. You can also send faxes via e-mail but I haven't been brave enough to try that out yet.
Prior to August 2007, I also used eFax. I moved to RingCentral when I got tired of their proprietary file format. It's been some years so maybe they went to pdf as well.
Bill: Problem with e-mail is all the variables in play and often unreliable email systems in use. Fax has proven dead reliable for me while e-mail not so much. Even when using virtual fax services.
After a 1.5 day outage at my shared web host, I moved my company email to Google Docs for Small Business (think gmail with @yourdomain.com, plus extras) and it's been better, but too soon to really say with certainty.
Efax,myfax or Ringcentral?

You have reliability issues on all fronts. I have to do everything by email, even faxing, so it makes it easier for me and many others I have talked to. And when comparing fax to email issues, I would say that I see about triple the fax issues compared to email.
But I understand, you're an old man that is affraid of technology.
I may be all over that business gmail service. Handed off our website/email to my son. He went with Fatcow or something and I'm not happy with the email process compared to getting gmail on my phone. Can't find a client I like as much as the gmail client for Android (go figure). If it will work with the gmail client like my gmail account does then we will be switching so fast his head will spin. -
I went with gmail because I know about their infrastructure and after that outage, decided it was worth $50/user/year for a better level of service. Having deployed managed email before, the price is dirt cheap. We also use Google docs for a few things so it was a nice fit. The gmail specific config and calendar integration on the smart phones was an unexpected bonus.
About the only problem I've had with faxes is people feeding them through their machine crooked or upside-down. With email, it's either server problems, spam filters, or attachment problems. I can fix the crooked fax pages with software.
And I will laugh at you during a power failure when my dial phones are still working LOL.BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Something about phone lines in our town. Slightest weather and they are out. I had DSL for the first month when I moved into my house and it was down more than up. Cable internet has been down twice that I know of in three years. And have a battery backup on so when power is out I have the battery life of my laptop then it is into the dark ages for me.
I have one broker that never keeps paper in the machine. And of course they hav the ringer off so when they are getting call after call to the fax they don't know until someone calls to tell them.
Another that is a good sized independent still has an old thermal paper fax. I walked into his office, very nice with everyone using multi-monitor systems and wireless headset, and the floor is pilled with rolled up paper. Someone takes those pages and makes a copy on an inkjet multi-function. People are crazy about this stuff.
I won't say I'm on the bleeding edge but I use technology to my advantage. -
I'll hold ya'll to that offer as long as I can bring my wife and bordercollie(Molly),I don't go anywhere without either one, makes life interesting in a day-cab though

Thanks BigBadBill, have you talked with anyone from ring central yet?
Thanks Old Man,i checked them out tonight and they don't automatically bill yourcredit card after the free trial is over, which i kinda like the idea of.
Doing great Nik,thanks. Sounds like your back in the saddle full bore with your new gig .Glad it's working out good for ya'll. Stop by on your way thru sometime and we'll treat ya to an old fashioned ''farm hand'' home-cooked meal with all the fix'ns
Thanks for the reply RedForeman, between you and BBB,surely one of you fellers could walk this old farmboy/grainhauler thru the details
That's our problem here BBB,every time we get any weather at all,our phone lines go down. DSL was totally unreliable for us,and HughesNet was just too slow, almost like dial-up
Thanks for ALL you folks responses, this was what i was hoping for...real life experiences. Thanks again! -
+1 for Ring Central. I've been using it for over two years, never had a problem. Pretty easy to use, you can either send faxes from your email and just add attachments of the stuff you want to send, just like a regular email, or they have a easy to use program where you just put in the number and choose which files you want to send. If you can use this forum, you can use Ring Central. I haven't used anything else, so I can't give you feedback on the other services, I just know what's worked for me.
BigBadBill and dairyman Thank this. -
You're on! No problem bringing the wife and the pup either! We've got a pup also. She likes company too!

Just have to shoot him a PM with what town you're in!
dairyman Thanks this. -
Thanks josh.c,''what's worked for me'' should work for me too
How easy do they make putting your signature on faxes, have you had any brokers complain about legability/clarity issues with your signatures?
Will do. -
been using myfax for about 2 years now and love it $10 a month and you get 888 fax number 100 out pages and 100 in pages and if you go over it's .10 a page. we love it beause when we need something faded to the truck we just call and give the 888 fax number and then when we need the fax just check email and print
dairyman Thanks this. -
