I am not a trucker but rather I am researching trucking and trucking company operations for a start-up company what will need a small fleet of vehicles
I figured joining this site would be beneficial in assisting me in getting a lot of my questions answered.
A little background on the project
Located in Mexico It will be a commercial egg production facility located in a rural area. The fleet will consist of regular box trailers to haul the boxed eggs (products) to distribution centers in the larger surrounding cities.
Also needed are other types of trailers such as stainless steel liquid tankers and silo tankers for grains and feed for the animals.
A maintenance facility is also in the plans for regular repairs and service of the trailers as well as a fuel station and truck storage area.
The operation will start small with a few vehicles but the business plan will allow projected growth each year and additional trucks and routes.
A dairy is also being opened on land next to the this project with the intention of processing milk and shipping it in raw form so this trucking operation will be very important and a pivotal part of the entire overall project.
What is the average cost of operation for an 18 wheeler per road mile? ( I know this depends on fuel costs but an average)
One of the issues we have is that zoning and cost for the actual facility are greatly reduced the more rural the location however if its too rural the cost of fuel and transportation then negate any benefit in cost savings.
I have no experience whatsoever with trucking or over the road driving so please understand I know absolutely nothing about this so terminology and basics regulations are foreign to me. I have a lot of questions and I invite any questions you may have.
