Egr cooler replacement

I'm at Volvo in Bakersfield, CA and they're telling me there's a leak inside the EGR cooler. They say they need to replace the cooler and a bunch of attaching parts and drop the DEF system to clean it and inspect it for damage due to the coolant leak. Estimate is $5800!!! Do I bite the bullet or chance needing a tow to try to get out of California?
