Has anyone ever taken their EGR valve off and cleaned it? How did it work out for you and what did you use to clean it?

What engine ? What year ? IMO , the best thing to do with an EGR valve , is take it off , and throw it away.

lol, 2005 515det, the EGR valve was replaced in 08 with the upgraded version. Truck ran cold for awhile. After replacing the thermostats for the second time, she's finally running at operating temp. My concern is the carbed up EGR. I may be thinking wrong but there is induction cleaning for cars which they do clean the EGR valve. Never heard of anything like that for a big rig. My fuel mileage is down from the same time last year, under the same conditions. Detroit recommended a 6 pack of injectors and they'll throw in the harness for 2300. They also talked about the EGR may not be operating to it's fullest, do to it being carbed up. Only one injector has been replaced and the truck has 850k. Cylinders have egual compression well within regs. As they say, absolutely no need for inframe for at least another 500k if not more. I have heard others have taken them off through CB conversation, but never got the hows and with what.

if you're talkin Detroit , I don't know. If they are anything like the ISX , you're better off doing the EGR delete , and getting rid of that dang Thing altogether. Just my two cents worth.
As for injectors , well , I don't know Detroits at all , but maybe I would give a company named HotShot Secrets a call . I think they'll be straight up with you , on wether their product will help. $100.00 bucks for a large oil capacity oil system. Cheaper than injectors.

Rebel127 on this site is the go-to for Detroit tuning, believe he's in CT. MNDriver has a thread somewhere in the Trucks section about his experience, which at the moment I'm completely coming up blank finding. If I understand correctly, the EGR can be throttled back to where it's minimally functioning, just via ECM settings.
