I didn't have to "fab" the plate. One came with the PDI manifold already to use. Nice plus to the product.

    Gears Thanks this.

Make sure if you use a PDI intake that you do shut off your EGR. If you don't your likely to ruin your Air to air, if I'm not mistaken.

Now for the reason of the design of the stock intake. The pinched down part of it is to cause a venturi effect so that your exhaust gases don't go the wrong way.

That is why you HAVE TO make sure you shut the EGR off when installing the new intake.

I can see DOT computer geeks trying to trace your IP address right now ...... LOL...

Anyone else do this get better fuel milage ? I'm running a Detroit 60 and thinking of doing something like this but the CHECK ENGINE light staying on is making me nervous...

I heard of some others people with Detroits doing this. From what I have heard, they had to make a "plug" that went into the EGR tube. But there are sensors that detect EGR flow, so they could not really block it off. They did try various sized holes in the plug to allow EGR flow while at the same time restricting it quite a bit. Not sure the size of hole they settled on, but it did stop a lot of EGR making it to the intake and was enough flow to trick the sensors.

I would try the Detroit users forum at the Lets Truck website. Bet you could get some ideas there.

Hey Cowpie and others on this thread...I'm gonna resurrect this year old thread. Back up a few posts, bigrigbuckmaster noted that if one blocks off the EGR gases, one should make sure their EGR valve is "shut off". Since it's been over a year on this and several gents have done this, I would like to know how it's working out.

Did the complete block off create any problems? Reason I ask is, and I'm not even sure this can happen...the last time I did the "test mode" and unplugged the EGR, things didn't feel like they did the first time. Maybe with more miles on the EGR valve there was more carbon/soot? Maybe this could prevent the valve from completely closing? I am guessing here because I haven't looked at the guts of the valves yet. So, if the EGR valve was not completely closed but unplugged...and there was a total block off of the intake port for EGR gases...would that create a problem say with charge air coolers and excessive manifold pressures?

Just being cautious here. I didn't buy a new intake but I wanted to have a look inside it and I saw the tube. Once it was off and in my hands, I went at it. As for the hose that connects the adapter to the fresh air intake, a section of round stock slides in there and secures with a clamp making the 1 extra clamp the only visible alteration on the outside.

The pic says it all...fresh air or ...

Mine's been unplugged for well over a year. That's all I did. I didn't block anything off or anything of the sort, just unplugged it. Aside from the CEL, nothing to report here.

Any year before they started putting those things on their engines:biggrin_25523:
    Sorry, can't answer that question...

the only problems I really hear about consistantly is the EGR valve and the EGR cooler. I do think they have an updated cooler so if your goes bad the new one is supposed to limit the chances of it going bad again.

The '08 and up ISX's have the EGR valve on the cold side and those are supposed to be alot better, but then you have the DPF to deal with, which IMO is far worse.
