So what your saying is the HOS rules need to be changed because it is in no way possible for a 30 year driver to do his job without breaking the rules.
Because as a 30 year driver you should recognize that what we are talking about really has nothing to do with the ELD, it has to do with the HOS rules, and weather you have the ability or not to break them. Or the desire.
See, I have been in this business just over 25 years, and I got tired of trying to get around, or breaking, the HOS rules a long time ago. Another thing that is aggravating to me is 30 year drivers such as yourself, who could give 2 hoots about HOS rules, and break them whenever it suits them. Im tired of the 15 year old rebels in this industry that have been doing it for 30 years. Im tired of hearing "well wheelman the devils number will do it why won't you"
The day of the "outlaw" is past. Grow up.

Not only do i Disagree with you 100%, but i find your comments calling me a rebel or an outlaw insulting. The DOT regs state that you are allowed to mark multi stops in the same zip code as all on duty, Hell UPS got an exception to ELDs by using this as one of their reasons, yet now us little old "rebels" can't. every-time you move that truck faster than 5 mph, its flips you to driving.
Now your going to sit there and tell me that during your 10 hour break you didn't get a PM done? or a truck wash? or maybe it was raining and you just didn't feel like walking all the way up to use the bathroom? or maybe you pulled into 1 truck stop to rest only to find out it was full and had to go down the road to less crowed, less popular one. and we didn't used to leave all of that as OFF Duty???? really. and now you can't. either you were a golden boy or your lying. Or that 30 minute break was really 28 mins but we logged in 15 min increments before. well guess what, the ELDs log by the second. so if that break is not exactly 30 mins your screwed. 29 mins and 59 seconds won't do it. No i was never an "outlaw or rebel" but ####, where as i used to log in 15 min increments and used to be able to mange stuff in the same zip code and now i have a computer telling me if i move 5 ft I'm Illegal, really?
and tell me this, if the ELDs are the greatest thing for safety since they invented the red light, then why does UPS, FedEx, Cattle Haulers, Agriculture haulers, and @ 30 other companies already have exceptions granted to them not to use the ELDs and there are @ another 50 companies in the process of getting exceptions? Do they drive a different type of truck then i do? Do they run on a different highway then I do? or are they just some kind of super truckers that they are so great they make no mistakes? Seriously??? Same truck, same highway, should be same rules if ELDs are such a great and necessary safety issue.
Their purpose is 1 thing...... to keep track of the bigger companies that keep screwing up because they don't train their drivers. oh and money.

If it were not for us old "outlaws". You are the "ME" generation yuppie, steering wheel holding, could not drive a real truck without all your electronic safety devices, and such, ohhh and i must not forget the automatic trucks you have to have today, because this generation isn't intelligent enough, nor have the capabilities to learn to drive a real truck. Us outlaws as you all call us older drivers. If not for us paving the way, you would not have a job outside of Micky D's. Us livestock haulers received a temporary exemption, due to the fact we haul live freight and is more time sensitive than your cheap freight going to Wally world D.C. So little boy, until you have done what we have done, or sacrificed the years of blood, sweat, and tears, in this industry. Go put on your big girl panties, and go about your electronic governmental intrusive way, and let the real drivers do what we have been doing for possibly longer than you have been on this Earth. So you can call me an outlaw. I, and hundreds more are the real men who carved this industry before you were even a thought in your parents minds. You all can say what you want about us older drivers, this shows how disrespectful, ungrateful, and ignorant you and the naysayers against the pioneers of this industry. Most of us older drivers have forgotten more about backing up, than you know about going forward. I can outdrive any of you new breed steering wheel holders. We went to the school of hard knocks in our day, you newbies would run home crying, with your little tails between your legs to go suckle on momma's breasts. So until you have walked a mile in our shoes, and have experienced the things we have in our years. Keep your Pie hole closed. I have a clean driving record in my 27 years of driving. No accidents at all. I run the same roads you all do, but i haul a different type of freight. My choice.

I to have 30 yrs in this industry and some where north of 4 million miles. probably 1 million going backwards. driven van, reefer, flat, tanker, doubles, stick and auto. I can read a map, and yeah i can even read road signs.
So please clarify if its me you going at or AZ Pete ????

I don't really care if you disagree. I don't really care if your insulted. You've been breaking the rules for 30 years, you don't care that you've been breaking the rules, and now your throwing a temper tantrum because you can no longer break the rules. Well, guess what, tough. There is nothing wrong with the ELD, (well there is, but for the purpose of this conversation, there isn't). What is wrong is the HOS REGULATIONS AS THEY ARE WRITTEN. See, all the ELD does is accurately log what you are doing, LIKE YOU WERE ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO DO, but didn't. Now, since truck drivers who have been doing this for 30 years have time and time again shown they were not responsible enough to actually show what they were doing, they are being FORCED to show what they are doing honestly.

You show just how simply minded and uneducated you are in the the HOS rules. If you read what i said. I in now way indicated the i broke any rules before. In fact I followed the rules exactly as they are written. Logging multi stops in the same zip code all as as continuous on duty has always been legal. and the HOS rule has always been that you rounded to the nearest 15 minute line since we logged in 15 minute increments. Since you obviously don't know a darn thing about how longs were done manually, you apparently wouldn't know that. Now everything is logged by the second, so yeah dummy, that minute can make you legal or not legal,
There are so many issue with the ELDs and they way they are set up to "oversee" the driver it is insane. Violations of certain Amendments, overseeing drive time, Forcing drivers to drive during unsafe, heavy traffic hours, having computers tell us when and what to do rather than assist us, forcing us to shut down in areas they may not be safe, and a whole host of other issues. Why do you think so many companies have or are trying to get exceptions???
Nor did you bother to answer or counter explain your worthless uneducated debate as to why everyone else can have an exception to using the great ELDs, but the rest of can not?? Why is that?
Don't assume yuppie that we all broke the rules for 30 years before, maybe you should learn the rules first and how they used to be before you open you mouth and debate something you seem to know little about.
Please go back to driving your automatic, daycab, home every night tittle truck and when you get educated, then let me know

If you want me to take your rant seriously, then learn it is EXEMPTION, not exception.
Also, the ELD is not holding a gun to your head. It can not MAKE you do anything. YOU are supposed to be the adult, YOU are supposed to take responsibility for your actions. Stop blaming an inanimate object that is only a TOOL for your shortcomings.

Wheelman. I was siding with you, and aiming the post to Desert Rat AZPete. If as his last post stated he is downing those from the past in cheating on our logs, and we are the cause of the new ELD regulation. If he has the supposed 30 years driving, he was probably one of those who were cheating on the logs. I forgot he is God's gift to trucking, and has never broke a rule his entire life. I figure he was a local driver, home nightly, and was delivering within the 150 air mile diameter so no log book required.

I never broke the rules, and my trucks are not required to run ELD'S due to them being of the EXEMPTED age requirement per the D.O.T regulation. The exemption for the livestock sector of the industry is needed due to the freight carried by those Bull haulers, and livestock trucks. You have your opinion and are probably one of those drivers who have more electronic monitoring, and technology in your truck, than NASA does. If you were a real driver of 30 years OTR (not locally). If you were such a good, regulation obeying driver, and seen the issue of 30 years ago in our industry. Than you'd understand the outrage, or understand why so many drivers are against more regulations to hinder our job, that is already frot with over regulations as it is. If you can not, than that is your opinion, and happy trails with your ELD, Speed limiter, EORB, and so forth. I personally did not get into this industry to over regulated, or have the Government so far up my rear, that they know what i had for breakfast. I also do not need those seat warming, politicians who have no earthly idea what it takes to do our job.
