I feel the same way about them.
There must be a way to log in or out though, some trucks might have several drivers in them or a mechanic using it or whatever, so certainly there will be a necessity to log in or out.
I'm sure putting a switch in the power line will be an easy thing to do but the ecm will show miles covered while switched off and i reckon that will not be an easy explanation to a distrusting officer. -
Yes, i guess as far as "logging off" your must be right. And i could simply pull the ELD out of the Jplug. But as far as explaining anything to an officer, i shouldn't have to and that's the point. its an invasion of my privacy. I was on vacation, Personal use, etc. its not a company truck, its mine and as such i have the legal right to use it for personal use. and when i am doing so i also have the right for the government not to spy on me.
So if i unplug the ELD, which units out there are the easiest to reset?
also if anyone has ANY info on what is the better or the worse ELDs to use i would be interested in hearing.
So far i have only looked at KeepTruckin and JJ Keller, (who wants WAY to much for theirs) -
I drove OTR for 3 years on Paper logs... yep my logs were legal, but all they had to do was pull the QC records...spyder7723 Thanks this.

You have to "log" in with an ID/PW,,, so why not just log out?
-
yes i can LOG OUT - but even then the unit is still logging the GPS locations and times and since its an OO Truck, Mine - it won't take much to figure out im the owner/driver so now they have a record of everything i have done on duty and on personal time.
I don't like that, and i don't want that. Sorry im just not ready to hand over my personal life to big brother -
I know what you mean, and I do think its the thin end of the wedge. I'm not looking forward to the thick end either.
And the only three choices are drive a pre 2000 truck, suck it up or stop driving. -
Well for now maybe - but i can tell you one thing. I see lawsuits coming down the pike. People are going to be suing over invasion of privacy with the ELDs. I don't think this is quite over yet. at least not in full
-
I'm sure you're right, but as of right now the only legal opposition is coming from ooida. For my money every driver who opposes the new rule should be contributing to their fighting fund, love them or hate them they are our only voice right now.
