As an independent ELD exempt is no problem.
It's much more difficult to lease on to someone if you are ELD exempt, although I understand there are some carriers that will do that.

Where is this mystical place you speak of with a shortage of trucks? If I wasn't already driving a practically new truck, I could go to my local dealer and get one tomorrow. The used market is flooded as well. -

I ran in to that problem when the economy crashed. And would have that problem again if I wanted to lease on. Most of my career is local.
If thats what your asking.
Op would have to find a small company that doesn't care about recent otr.Last edited: Nov 18, 2020

He is t asking about leasing on. He is asking if people are finding it difficult to haul freight without an ELD.
I am approved to haul for fifth wheel, convoy, coyote, TQL, Landstar, Sureway, TA Services CHR, quite a few others I can’t even think about right now with an older truck and no ELD that they no of.
Of course if I tried to lease on with anyone it would be a big no without an ELD, and older truck.
He won’t have any problems with his own numbers an no ELD at this point other than the standard 30/60/90/180 or even 360 some brokers ask for.
I wasn’t asking though, I was just commenting my experience.
snowwy Thanks this. -
Never had a broker come out and directly ask if we had ELD's. Doing a new carrier packet if they asked the question about having ELD I just put no or N/A
staceydude and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Also I was merely stating that I’ve noticed brokers have started asking if your ELD mandated or exempt. That’s all. Not sure why, and they shouldn’t discriminate if you are exempt. It’s really none of there business in my eyes.staceydude Thanks this. -
Probably trying to cover their butts should there be an accident.
staceydude and ZVar Thank this.
