One of the crimes the ambitious can be charged with is negligent homicide. At 22 years old,your still young and dumb(no offence). Just remember that whoever you work for is making more money than you,off of you. You are still doing all the work and take most of the risk.

Exactly, the idea that a bunch of tax eaters who have never done the job are qualified to say when every single driver hits the unsafe point of fatigue is intellectually offensive.
It was the Teamsters who advocated for HOS in the 30's because like all unions, they wanted something for nothing and bribing a government gun to make it law is the Union "go to" move.
Every decade the regulations get stricter, and every decade the safety record of the trucking industry gets worse; now that most of the drivers left were trained to lick the government boots it won't be getting any better.
I never understood why so many guys want the government to micromanage them, the complete lack of confidence that someone must have to trust an empty government suit with zero knowledge more than yourself who does this for a living is inconceivable.shorty102292 Thanks this. -

They have no business demanding "Operating Authority" either.
And insurance is not the same, that is a requirement to deal with a problem after it occurs and is entirely appropriate on public roads. As are registration fees and safety inspections, all these can be easily justified and all of these are universal requirements for those who use the public roads.
HOS does NOT apply to cops, government lackeys, housewives, teenagers, convenience store workers, ex convicts, drug dealers, porn stars, accountants, airline pilots, fishermen, roughnecks, ranch hands or ANYONE else who use the public roads; only professional truck drivers are the ones deemed too stupid and irresponsible to manage their sleep habits and know their limits? -
If you think it’s bad now then imagine what it would be like if anyone could buy a truck and hit the road with no authority. As I said earlier, deregulation was the downfall of this industry. You used to need some skin in the game to even get authority and you did everything to protect it once you had it. You guys are acting like trucking is the only regulated industry in the history of earth.

Nurses and doctors aren't regulated as to the hours that they work. Last year, 6,000 people were killed by mistakes made by just nurses. That is more people than were killed by truck drivers. Nurses love the overtime pay.
After you wreck from driving for 23 hours,do you want to be treated by a hospital team that has been up for 23 hours? -
Then why do the regulations precede the dropping of the safety numbers?
There is absolutely no way to justify the increased regulations using safety, they started regulating an industry with a STELLAR reputation and they turned it into industry that is held in contempt by most people.
When you had to be trained by a Journeyman driver after convincing a truck owner that you possessed the character to handle the liberty of a truck driving job we got great drivers and earned the public trust, now you have to go to a school where the government mandates the curriculum and decides what you need to know in order to be ready to do the job; the results are self evident and entirely predictable.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
That was back in the 1970s when $2.00 a mile was common. Truck drivers weren't a dime a dozen back then.
