100% agree.
I slept when I was tired and drove when I wasn't tired. Somehow I've made it almost 30 years without an issue. Of course according to the ELD crowd I was unsafe most of those years. LOL. Right.

i don't get the hostility about how often other drivers stop at a truckstop or how many miles they put on.
really,if a guy likes to drive 2 hours and take a nap why is that cause for a guy like tucker to get so upset?
if a guy wants to put 300 miles on a day and stop at truckstops what difference does it make to anyone?
and furthermore how does that make them dangerous in any way,and in need of being forced onto elds?
so much rabid concern over other peoples way of doing things that causes no harm to anyone.
kinda reminds me of the people that don't like guns,so they want my guns taken by force. well,if i had them. mine were all lost in an unfortunate boating capsize while duck hunting....BoostedTeg, ShooterK2, wore out and 2 others Thank this. -
Funny how often that seems to happen.... I was heading out to an island to practice long- range shooting, and they all sank.wore out Thanks this.

Several ways to pay for it
They can cut the drivers pay 3 cents
Or
Get rid of the Prepass
Or
Subscribe to a fuel program and buy discounted fuel
Or
Govern their trucks slower
Or
Embrace elogs and enjoy the fuel mileage increase from the driver not being able to stop at every other truckstopscottied67 Thanks this. -
When/if the mandate goes into effect , automatic mode changes will be turned OFf. Drivers will have to manually change their status, which I think is a dumb change. My drivers are going to get so screwed up because right now they are used to automatic on/drive mode switching.

Can you provide a source for the claim that automatic mode changes will be banned?
That is one I have never heard before, and does not make sense. -

So it has been elogs pushing all those speeding truckers for all these years??!?
I thought it was the "one more mile" syndrome...
And it seems that most of the speeding truckers I see are not on elogs in any casetucker Thanks this. -
And here we have an example of the non-elogs drivers that speed

If you are in states with 55 mph truck speed limit, you can legally drive 605 miles in 11 hours.
And that is another side safety benefit of elogs, average speed can be easily seen on them, so you can't drive way over the limit without it being recorded, and yes, you can get ticketed for it based on the elogs.
So the complaint that elog drivers are the ones speeding is countered by the fact that elogs can be used to enforce speeds as well.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 28, 2017

You are seriously confusing elogs with Dispatch issues.
Dispatch is going to Dispatch based on 58 mph average, with one 30 minute break regardless of elogs!
That 30 minute clock starts whether or not you are on elogs, it just is easier to see it, without having to do math with elogs.
As most of my driving, before my current job, has been on paper, I know that many of these claims are not true, including the resting when you are tired part. You rest when Dispatch gives you time to rest, and drive when you are told to. And any deviation from that makes you late.
Elogs make it so that Dispatch can't push you as hard, compared to paper, because there is no arguing with the clock, whereas with paper they give you an impossible schedule, and just let you figure out how to do it, and keep the logs review people happy later.
And to the company that is spending $1,800 per truck for ELDs, you need to shop around, because there are much cheaper options! Loldaf105paccar Thanks this. -
I haul frac sand. I go on jobs, and just haul sand till the job is done. Sometimes the frac goes slow. I may haul a load 30 miles from sand plant to location, then sit there for 7 hours waiting to unload. They finally burn thru some sand, I unload, run 30 miles back and grab another load. Round and round we go. Takes an hour and a half to go load and get back to location. 6-7 hour wait on location on every load. 2 or 3 days till the job is done. Ain't nobody gonna tell me I'm not getting enough rest on a job like that. I'm sleeping so much, I can't sleep anymore. But, it can't be logged legally. Even tho I'm off duty or in sleeper for 18 hours out of every 24 hours.
Someone is gonna say "it's not an elog problem. It's a HOS problem." And you're right. But, since the great powers that be don't seem interested in fixing the dang HOS, then paper logs is the only thing we have to give us the flexibility we need to do our jobs. We are not out here trying to be unsafe and kill people. We are just tryin to do our jobs.BoostedTeg, rogueunh, Pedigreed Bulldog and 1 other person Thank this.
