I don't really agree with that king of running being unsafe. Too many variables. Do you know how many times I've had to stop driving because HOS says I should when I'm not even tired? Just because the rules say you should be sleeping doesn't mean you will be able to sleep. And then after twiddling your thumbs for a large part of the mandatory rest break it's time to go again with less sleep than you would have gotten if it was up to you.

It's hard for you folks that haven't driven very long to understand the safety concept and the whole eld mess that trucking has become today.

As for the statement that elds are safer then paper. Is purely false. The human body is not a machine that can be programmed to run with a clock and sleep when the clock says so.

Your 47 year old college graduate that slept on his own rules is safer then the machine. It's how a lot of us drove. Sleep when tired. Drive when awake. The #1 rule of driving is NO FATIGUED DRIVING. Applies to cars also. You can't sleep anymore because the clock says you have to drive. You don't have an office job that only works 9 - 5. You're on a clock 24/7. Compound that with being in a truck at a truckstop surround by reefer noise. And whatever other noise. Then compound that by being in a team truck.

There's a difference in the amount of sleep one gets at home in a nice quiet comfy bed compared to a lousy mattress in a truck and all the other factors that go against getting a decent sleep.

The gooberment had rules that were in play for 75 years. Or however long. Those rules worked. We had flexibility. And no accidents.

When I started driving. Werner was the only company on elogs. And you rarely saw an accident. When I left the road again. 2 years ago. An accident a day was a common occurence. More companies were using elogs. THAT alone, outta say how dangerous those things are. The gooberment is in denial to say that they are safer.

Now that elogs are a federal law. Accidents have gotten ever worse. And I don't even leave my home state anymore.

It's also cool to see more trucks these days parked everywhere they can find to park. Wether it's a 30 or they ran out of time and have to take a 10.

Trip planning. Don't even go there. Cuz that's about the most unrealistic world you all live in. Anything that CAN happen. WILL happen. And I can't decide which is worse anymore. Winter or Summer. Winter is obvious. But summer. You've got not only construction you didn't know about. But them people pulling trailers are wiping out every day. Campers, horses, trash. Whatever. They can't drive anywhere close to teh speed limit and yet they lose their trailers left and right.

Unless they're a medical resident (doctor but new) then they are REQUIRED to do 36 hour shifts... Seems like a bad idea to have the assisting surgeon be 30 hrs into a shift, but what do I know...
