I wish that was true. One of our competitors got busted for falsified logs and it cost him big time. A former driver dropped the dime on them and when DOT showed up they knew exacrly what they were looking for,
He paid by the hour and when the DOT guys compared the payroll records (Yes, they had a subpoena) with the hours on the log books they found some huge differences. They compared the pay records and the log books to scale sheets and fuel records .
I don't know exactly how much the fines were but I know the guy had to sell some equipment to cover them. He also had to find a new insurance carrier and put up with having the driver's logs inspected every time they crossed a scale.
