I have concluded that the end goal is a national database with all ELD info in it, that DOT can mine for violations, speeding, safety, you name it.

Just thought I'd throw in my limited experience with an aobr. First I've been on paper for 23 years with no log book tickets, with that said I can see a lot of tickets being written in the first few months of the elog requirement.
You still have to enter the same info on an elog you do on paper, and until you are familiar with the system you choose I can see it being very easy to not correctly enter a fuel stop or trailer # etc. Easy form and manner violation right there.
I decided to try out the Big Road aobr. Main reasons were, ease of use, (had tried out their free app first) and price. I figure if I don't like it I'm out a couple hundred bucks and move on.
I have to say that their system seems to work just as it should. There were a couple hiccups at first, time zone not being correct and being sent two units. Those issues were resolved quickly and customer service is very responsive.
Here are the questions I had before buying big road that I couldn't seem to get answered completely. Does it allow personal conveyance? Yes it does. Does it allow yard moves? yes it does up to 5 miles. Does it show your availability for an 8/2 split? Yes it shows you exactly how many hours you need to spend in the sleeper or off to split your log and the available hours after your split is complete. Also has a recap showing available hours for your week.
Some of the features have to be set up thru the big road web page, PC,Yard moves, type of hours, etc.
I bought a Samsung tab e lite to be dedicated to elogs, and works well with big road. In conclusion as far as aobr for a small fleet or owner op I'd say big road is pretty good.
Last thing is my logs look a lot messier than on paper. Every time you exceed 5mph you go on the drive line. Get fuel and drive to a parking space on drive line, drop and hook on drive line(unless you remember to use the yard move), etc. At the end of the day the graph can look like a lot of scribbles. Anyway we'll see.12 ga Thanks this. -
I'm lost was just trained on paper logs for a non cdl job. Next year, hopefully sooner when I enter school are training companies training on elogs?

I am using KeepTruckin with the hardware box connected directly to my truck's computer. I can edits miles, locations, On Duty Status, Sleeper, Off Duty. Just cant edit Driving. All my edit will not be viewable by DOT inspection mode. They only see the finalize version. However, the support people were able to confirm to me that they saw all the originals and edited. In other words, as a driver, DOT guys wont catch me. My Carrier will be caught and fine $10,000 per violation..
TallJoe Thanks this. -
Oh, i even tried disconnecting to box and drive a little to see if support people will notice. The app notices it sometime, but support saw all !!!! Cant hide from ELD because the truck's computer cant lie or be altered.
TallJoe Thanks this. -
what if disconnect the speed sensor ? eld will see no movement.
