I’m a one truck operation, and I have drop trailer capabilities.nightgunner, rank and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
The real question is how will this affect Household Goods (movers)
We're already experimenting with leaving a trailer in a customer's driveway and having a non-CDL crew show up in a van and pack & load. Then another driver on another schedule picks up the trailer in the evening.
But HHG guys make a lot more than dryvan, and are usually the lead guy on a move. Plus they're held responsible for any damage to the freight. So I don't know how keeping them out will affect their responsibility.
Personally I hate doing houses. I do it because I'm one of a handful of A-drives left at my outfit and we still are 40% a moving company. But it does seem like in the future using a PODS like system will be the way moves are conducted. Homeowner packs his own stuff and the company just picks up the box when he's done. Added benefit is that if he puts the fragile stuff on the bottom or doesn't secure the load it's HIS fault.rank Thanks this. -
