Trump administration is working on a set of guidelines / ammendments that will allow us some freedom without being in violation. Probably movement while unloading, fueling, safe haven, etc.
It's never gonna go away completely. Just got to hope we get enough common sense ammendments to it, while the common sense people are in charge.

what are they working on, another set of regulations that make no sense.
In order for you to use the allowance with any anything on an eld under this HOS rules, there is a formula that includes you figuring out positions of the moon and Mars from where you are on earth at the time you need the allowance and you need to add in the tide levels in Puget Sound in October unless the year is an odd year then you have to use the tide levels in Jacksonville in July but unless there is an "r" in the month then you have to calculate the distance from medium earth orbit satellite like Glonass from you if you were in the center of the earth on a hot snowy day which will give you the exact time you are limited to with the allowance. BUT then to qualify to use the allowance, you have to recite Shakespeare's sonnet 154 backwards while on your head unless it is a Wednesday, then you have to tell a passage from the Canterbury Tales The Reeve's Tale in Middle English.
That is the type of amendment or revision that any administration will come up with.
To me a simpler thing to do is just return to the set of rules we used for 40 plus years, the 1962 version of HOS which worked for all of us, and no BS exemptions, no exceptions and the flexibility it had built into that version.Bean Jr., Tropsnart and rollin coal Thank this. -
Shoot, if they'd just let us split the break up how we see fit, I could live with the rest. Just let us work 14 hours a day, with 10 off, but not all at once. I know the 8-2 split, but that still doesn't work for us in the oilfield.
BoostedTeg, wore out and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
It does seem that some of the bigger carriers are gonna use this as an excuse to bump rates up. Got two more memos from larger carriers I've used stating they are looking at a 20-25% increase. I haven't used them in over three years but they love sending mass e-mails out. I don't mark as spam b/c I do want to see what they are sending out. Also these carriers are large enough that they have been on ELDS for multiple years. They may actually bump the rate, but I seriously doubt any of that 20-25% will make it to the driver. I'm having a difficult time trying to look at this from a safety perspective, all signs point to dollar signs for everyone not actually doing the work. Disappointing so many drivers are onboard with this horrible law. It's just something I can not and will not do.
bigguns, BoostedTeg, Ruthless and 3 others Thank this. -
Sounds like a game of "Fizbin"!

And no difference between driving and on duty. Made sense back in the day of Armstrong steering, 2 sticks and 200 hp trucks. Now, with all the ease and comforts in trucks, driving is easier to do than working.

Bean Jr. good point, if you had a truck with 380hp it was a monster. And air assist steering made it so the wheel wasn't getting ripped out of your hands on every bump you hit.
Are they trying to change the regulation for small business? Was reading something about if you've been in business for more then 5 yrs. with a clean company record it could equal an exemption. it's something ooida is fighting for and will prob be turned down. But that would make a lot of sense. If you've been in business for over 5 yrs or 10 yrs or 20 yrs with a clean company record why shouldn't you be able to continue your safe business practice. -
Single Truck and very small companies owners are probably some of the safest drivers. I know if I screw something up and can’t work then I’m screwed. Elds are great for big companies that need to monitor drivers and make them behave. Just because I’m on paper doesn’t mean that I drive 20 hours a day which most ELD users tend to believe.

Their main belief is that if they are leashed, then everybody has to be leashed too. If you're not, then you're an outlaw killing families on vacations.
