I'm not sure where the right place to post this is. I plan on getting an electric cooler to take with me in my truck. I have been looking at the road pro brand at the truck stops. I currently drive for Werner (hey, its experience) and they said I can idle my truck during breaks, but my question is how much juice do these things use? I normally dont idle unless I have to, even though Werner doesnt seem to care if I do. They tell me if the batteries get low than an alarm will come on but I've never let it get that low. I drive a 2011 International Pro Star Eagle if that makes a difference. Anyone with advice for a rookie driver (besides leaving Werner, already have a plan for that). Is this a good cooler? Easy on the batteries? Roomy?

To to Walmart and get the cooler. I think it's 89.99 there.its Coleman brand. Also it doesn't use much juice. After you had it awhile you might think about getting the spare fans that go inside they tend to wear out after a while. There not to hard to replace just to wires and 4 screws.

I have the Coleman brand, Works great, I got it at the Pilot in Hesperia. I honestly can't remember what I paid for it, but I am sure I would have saved some cash if I would have got it at Walmart like Wink stated above.

I have an electric cooler got it from walmart in 2007....used it for 3 years not 1 problem with it....I used to idle my truck a lot. Not sure how much juice it uses though....I do remember leaving it plugged in for my 10 hour break without idling my truck once. Was kinda worried my truck would not start but it did.... Thats about all the help I can give you on it..I drive local now and it just sits in my garage collecting dust

Keep close tabs on the plugs. They tend to melt after a time. I've had two Colemans and both suffered from melted plugs. Motors were fine. I switched to Igloo. Plug eventually melted, but it unplugs from the cooler itself and can be replaced separately.

I tend to keep mine plugged in pretty much 24/7 during the warmer times of the year, but will leave it unplugged and sitting up front on the passenger seat during the colder months. That part of the cab is not heated overnight as the bunk curtains are closed, and therefore will keep the cooler quite cold during your sleep time.

I had that exact cooler for over two years. The good thing about getting it a walMart is that the A/C converter comes with it, the ones at truck stops don't have it and it costs about $35.00 alone I think.
I was told early on by an old trucker to take the fan apart every three months or so and do two things'
1, blow the dust off it!
2, there is a small paper dick about the size of a quarter on the motor, peel it back and put a drop of 3-in-1 oil one the shaft.

I have a Coleman that I purchased at Walmart about 11 mos ago now. So far no problems with it. I've had once incident where I left it plugged in for the weekend and had to jump start my truck on Monday. I also discovered that one of my 3 batteries was weak anyway. Since my truck is parked during the weekends, I always make sure to unplug the cooler.

Buy a fridge...you'll thank me later. I eat good, and keep plenty of drinks and food in there. Buy one from WalMart, and save money and get a good one.
