Who knows why some people have so much contempt for someone else’s stuff.

Don't want to expound too much on this, don't wanna get kicked to the sandbox.

But we're several generations deep into folks being taught they don't have nice things because of the people who do have nice things.

I see a lot of really nice trucks that I think "that's really nice, but not for me". It may be because we are off road a lot and much of what is on the truck would be torn off quickly, or it may just not be my taste, but it still draws attention. Then, I may see a truck (like the blue KW that @kylefitzy used to have, although running big steers with the fifth wheel all the way back was a puzzle to me) that jumps out at me like something that I could really use. Then there is the other 90% of the trucks that I see that are completely unremarkable.

I have one major fault in life: I have always put more value in doing work that I enjoy over how much money I can make. If the only reason I am working is to make money I could do a lot of other things that make much more. There is nothing wrong with people that derive their pleasure in making money in and of itself, but that is not me.

If a company views a truck as strictly a tool with which to make money, and the absolute cheapest cost per mile is the only metric that matters, they probaably view their drivers in the same fashion. If on the other hand they view there equipment as an investment in their business and their image, then they no doubt are willing to invest in items that improve the usefullness of the truck and enhance their image, or at least stand out from the crowd a bit. Neither approach is wrong, but I think this thread has shown both sides of the spectrum.

Are you talking about all my stuff that was just handed to me by my depression era, self taught mechanic, small family farm raised grandfather with his Advanced 6 grade education? Or the stuff I worked 2 full time jobs for 20 years and then slowed down to 60 hours the next 20? Lol
Actually the stuff (work ethic and financial advice) my Grandfather gave me is worth a whole lot more to me, than what I accumulated over 40 years. I wish I would have listened to more of his financial advice, but I really needed to learn the hard way.

Personally I'd enjoy adding sparkles and chrome to my truck. But being as it's a 2020 plastic Cascadia it would be like adding lipstick to a pig. So I'll just keep it clean and maintained

Except it’s not up to you or anyone else to decide what’s useless look at me crap unless you’re the one paying for it. Here’s one of the trucks I drove over 10 years working for my old boss. You may say it’s useless but apparently he feels otherwise. We even had our own light pattern on the back of the trailers and everyone would know it’s a Reed truck. And anyone running the NW would easily recognize one of his trucks.

I believe someone could get a custom bumper built for $800. BUT the chrome plating to finish it will cost another $800 and will have to be sent down to Mexico to get it done on top of that.

Oxbow and Tug Toy Thank this.

I wonder if when my uncle bought my 351 new in ‘67 the haters tried to talk him down. Well while a little faded in the color, 56 years, and almost 4 million miles later she still turns heads and gets thumbs up and signs autographs wherever she goes. Lol.

That’s what’s wrong, no pride in the ride or the job. Most drivers don’t have pride in themselves anymore. I will say, I don’t miss it now that I have sold off the trucks.
It was getting horrible, tip my hat to the ones still pounding the super slab
