Hey Folks,
I've got a 2001 Freightliner Columbia.
The dash HVAC blower motor went out.
When it quit, the two radios; cb & music radio both quit, my HI beams quit working, and my ww wiper/washer quit.
EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE; low beams, turn signals, flashers, marker lights (tractor AND trailer), jakes, radiator fan, dash guage lights, guages all work properly.
I replaced the blower first because the HI speed showed signs of the motor bearings going out. I checked all the breakers, relays, and fuses with my multi-tester, all good. Next, I did continuity tests on all my grounds and hots; replaced wire ends where I found corrosion, and soldered the ends to the wires. Did all my electrical maintenance as needed by a responsible operator.
Then:
I'm guilty of throwing some parts at the issue;
An ignition switch: $14.00 (legitimate guess ... lol), dimmer/flasher/turn signal module: $80.00 (ILLEGITIMATE GUESS), then I messed up and R&R'd the main fuse panel on the passenger side.
We won't talk about the price, but I know anyone with any knowledge at all knows what that price range is. My justification is that this truck has given me 18 years of relatively low operational costs, and the fuse panel showed signs of being corroded inside, so I don't feel bad ..........EXCEPT that I haven't yet fixed the problem.
Freight SUCKS right now.
I would MUCH RATHER use MY TIME to fix this rather than pay these shops these exorbitant labor fees to throw stuff at the wall like I have, and me still not have any more experience, knowledge, and wisdom after the fact. If freight was hot, then I would have put it in the shop, paid the bill, and been on down the street, hauling freight worth hauling.
I'm 60 years old, gonna be 41 next April, been truckin 40 plus years, but I'LL BE ###### if I'm gonna let this one kick my ###, so I'm asking for some help from like-minded operators who have a high level of give-a-#### like I do.
Here's my contact info if anyone wants to contact me directly:

A long time ago when multipule systems failed we used to open the fuse box.
stacks of fuses you recall.
Usually a master supply of electricity into the box to all the fuses.
If your truck was off and you ran a meter over each of the fuses and find the ones still draining power (Shorted...) thats one issue served by a particular fuse. You keep going up the stack.
Computer ECM stuff when groups go out, I suspect the Harness and ECM connections first.
Then it becomes a form of computer war to seek out at the big shop what your truck's brain is missing.Conagher59 Thanks this. -
Have you got the trap door by the driver's seat like on a Century? I know a lot of ignition gremlins like to take up residence in there. It sounds as though all your issues might be related to or with the ignition switch.

Pull your cup holder out and look straight down with a flashlight. You should see a module that looks like a radio amplifier with 2 white cables and a plug going to it. Make sure, with truck running, that you have 12 volt power on both of those cables. Report back.
mhyn, Hulld, baha and 1 other person Thank this. -
also one more thing to check is very simple verify that you have all powers coming in on the side of fuse box you should see studs for bat+, ISO, and ACC make sure you verify you have good power coming to the cab there is a power stud right on the firewall on the passager side almost under passager wiper arm make sure it's not lose or corroded, next stop after that the starter thats where the power and the ground comes from for the cab verify that you have good power and ground. check these first than see what happens.
QUALITYTRUCK and Hulld Thank this.
