Shoot sorry about that ds yes I use rat poison in the cab so yes the critters could have chewed up wires. Problem is I'm on the big side so having a look under the dash is a bit of a problem for me hehe

Soy as a material has been a problem. I thought I was crafty when I considered it.

Charge and feed the batteries tonight. Tomorrow is a new day. If it still acts up... I would think maybe trade it in because getting into the dash or whatever it's a nightmare.

Hunting electrical loss is a weakness of mine. I once had a entire wiring of a older car eaten by a single winter's salt. Granted we had snow higher than two story houses back in '93 but man...

Ok tried something. Disconnected trailer electric plug from trailer. Started truck hmm fluid light didn't come on but just for a few seconds then light back on truck quits again, repeated a few times same result. Connected trailer plug light comes on right away when I push the start button. Hmmmm

There are 13 holes in that pigtail. OR was it 14. One of them is a dead ground. It's all it is. Clean that one out with a wire or something. See if you get a better ground. It's the biggest hole in that tail.

Try it. If you cant get ground, you cannot power. See?

some trucks i have had, had a ground strap from the 5th wheel to the frame, does yours? (i can't see why either as the 5th wheel IS bolted to the metal frame in the first place!!)

i'd not drill any holes into the 5th wheel, maybe you can use a pair of vice grips to temporarily hold a ground wire and see if this happens?

if so, then you can figure a way to mount that extra ground wire on your own.

in fact, i'd make sure all frame ground straps are attached, maybe add one or 2?

All this talk about ground shorts make me feel really stupid and rednecky for talking about shoving metal into a pigtail to clean it. Sheesh.

Try to find a diagram for it. And check first before you go poking into it.

actually, a clean pigtail and connector can eliminate some problems. i use WD-40 many times to dry out the connections. i try to be as careful as i can be, to spread open the prongs for better connections. i have at home, a tube of die-electric grease, that can be bought at any auto parts store (but it can be costly) and during the winter, give a slight coating on the prongs to ensure contact and cleanliness.

but since the truck lease company has a garage about 1/2 mile from my location, i stop in and when needed, get a new or repaired pigtail.

there have been times, i jammed a Popsicle stick or folded up foil gum wrapper, the make the connection tight, just so i could get going.

there is also a pigtail wire brush, to clean the female ends, one at a time i think, can;t say how much that is though.

would be nice if a type of rubber boot can be fashioned well enough to cover the electrical box and pigtail, to keep out most crap, especially with winter only a few weeks away. maybe an old inner tube?
