The only thing you can change is sleeper berth time. But yeah, it makes inspections go much smoother.

ddl will, when you first go to line 1 it will show you when your 14 ends when you go to line 2 it will show you (grid turns red) when your 11 runs out. if you log to fast it will warn you when you input your miles driven.

have had 2 dot log book checks done the first time the leo just looked at the laptop and handed it back, 2nd time the leo knew how to use ddl and spent about 2 min checking a few things then handed it back and said we were good to go.

I have been driving a Truck with an electronic M4 TREQ from LOADTREK.net
After using this system for 6 weeks here are my concerns!
    1. Driving at night can be very dangerous because the driver cannot dim down the screen.
You have this constant bright glaring screen interfering with your night vision. There is no option for the driver to adjust the brightness level.
According to the support people at Loadtrek they say "We work only with an approved personnel from each company."
    2. The Load Trek reboots randomly with a loud and obnoxious noise. There is no way for a driver to turn off the sound especially when sleeping in the sleeper. Again the support people at Loadtrek they say "We work only with an approved personnel from each company."
    3. I can log off duty or into the sleeper or back on duty and the unit will reboot ignoring my last entered DOT duty status. Again trying to contact the people at Load Trek they say "We work only with an approved personnel from each company." When dealing with the man who is responsible for administrating the drivers logs He has no clue why it does that, but can go on line and manipulate the log book to become DOT compliant.
    4. The response time on the M4 TREQ is slower that an old 1980's Commodore 64
    5. The unit will not report your vehicle millage at stops or change of duty status.

I would not recommend this unit in any way! With an arrogant support team like this that only deals with an approved personnel from each company. It is obvious they are spending most of their time legislating the DOT to intact laws to force companies to go out and install some kind of electronic log unit.

You might check out dieselboss.com to see what they have to offer. They offer a log calculator that runs in MS Excel and Eclipse driver log. It will integrate with a GPS if attached to your laptop and allows you to place your digital signature on the signature line. The price seems very reasonable also.

dot requires that computer printed logs be sign BY HAND and in ink

they can make you print them (todays) on the side of the road and it better not have a digital signature on it when it comes out of the printer

fmcsa 395.8, dot interpretations 395.8 (the big green fmcsa pubisher on or after 2/2004) question 28 part 2 "sign it in his or hre own handwriting"

Well, if DOT wants my e-logs printed out, they will have to give me their fax number, I will plug it in to the system, and the printed logs will be faxed to them. Otherwise, they can scroll thru the last 8 days graphical displays on my Qualcomm. Have never hand signed anything since I went off paper logs. And never had any problems with any enforcement officer.
