I have been on elogs for 2 years now and that was the first thing I looked for when going back over the road. I have been DOT'ed 2 times when they ask for my logs I hand them the Qualcomm and all they say then is OK have a nice day and they just do a walk around and paperwork inspection.
Electronic drivers logs anyone use them ?

Does anyone know if you run for Landstar are you required to turn in logs? if so do they accept electronic printed logs?
I was thinking they probably wanted to insure their o/o's are running legally. -
I've been asked for my log book about two dozen times in 2.5 years. I show them the Qualcomm and they usually wave me along.
Recently, in WV, the officer asked to see my summary screen with my 11, 14, and 70 clock. I'm guessing they are getting a little more aware of how and what they are looking for.
Boise scale in ID is the only one that ever gave me the fax number to enter in my QC. Kinda annoying as it took 10 min for the fax to come thru. The Officer skimmed the fax sheets, and sent me on my way.
So 2 out of 20 some situations. That's 20 some situations where they would have examined my paper log, but let me roll with elogs -
what i was talking about is for divers using computer (laptop) logs like ddl
i've had dot look at my laptop and just hand it back but ut dot (echo) wanted the last 7 days printed -
Before elog on CQ, I used DDL. I was told by DOT in AZ that I needed to print each days log, With my own signature in pen, and have them for the previous 7 days also.
-
Oh, and it was ok to present the current days log on my computer screen, but the other 7 days must be printed and available for inspection.
-
I use DDL. I print out my last day's sheet, sign it, and put it in my book every morning before I head out so only my current day needs printed if they ask. They haven't opened the laptop yet on inspections, just asked if I had my printer with me which I always do.
-
most of the time they just look at the screen but i did have one that wanted to see the last 7 then asked me to back to the truck and print todays.

The following excerpt is from this link:
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=395.8
"(2) Every driver who operates a commercial motor vehicle shall record his/her duty status by using an automatic on-board recording device that meets the requirements of §395.15 of this part. The requirements of § 395.8 shall not apply, except paragraphs (e) and (k) (1) and (2) of this section."
This states that Motor Carriers my require drivers to use an AOBRD. It doesn't state using AOBRD voluntarily or using personal laptop. This is kind of a vague area but as long as your application and laptop fufills the requirements specified then you'll be okay.
"(b) Information requirements. (1) Automatic on-board recording devices shall produce, upon demand, a driver's hours of service chart, electronic display, or printout showing the time and sequence of duty status changes including the drivers' starting time at the beginning of each day."
