If they match there is not a problem. You could have 2 or 3 books if they all match. It is only a problem when one says your in Phoenix AZ on your 10, and the other says your in Albuquerque NM.
In fact if your follow exact rule and your elog dies then you have to stop and immediately make logs for the last 7 days, if your elog comes back to life then you would have 2 copies.
Just make sure they match and there correct.

I do not know why the company would want you to use to logs, if theres a discrepancy it opening you and them up to needless pain and aggravation.
Use the tablet for information to fill out the paperbook. Remember rounding, 0 to 6 rounds down or back. 7 to 15 rounds up or forward. If you get pulled over offer them the tablet and do not mention the paperbook, just illegal just save the headache. -
When I worked for Roehl they made all new drivers run paper and elogs at the same time until the log department felt the driver understood everything on the elogs.

They should have given you a piece of paper for dot that explains that you are training on elogs for a set time and during that time only paper log will be valid. Once time is up go on elog and keep paper log handy, dont mark on it, unless elogs go down.

As far as what happens when your logs go down, at my current and last company both had ways to do it. For instance, they can email them to you or the DOT officer doing an inspection. Or fax them.

One must accept that an electronic device will fail at some point. Since I started on elogs I keep "Driving Notes" on a paper notebook with times, places and mileage. Also have a paper log which I use for that day only if there's a technical problem with the electronic version.
Mainly I'm tracking what I do to check against the employers version of events so I get paid properly. I can't print out my daily elog so I can't use that.
In all cases, NEVER tell a DOT man that you have TWO logs. ROFLDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -

This is a gross violation. You cannot legally run two logs and they are screwing you if they force you to. This is against FMCSA regulations.
