CANNOT HAVE 2 LOGS PERIOD. I just read in depth about it.

Cannot have 2 at the same time.

Need to have a paper-log ready for use in the truck but not logging while you e-log.

    WRONG! :biggrin_25517:

Once again, an unsigned log is still enforceable against you, and certain circumstances actually REQUIRE multiple log books. FALSIFICATION is what gets you in trouble. As long as your log books accurately provide a record of your duty status, they will all match up, and there won't be ANYTHING any cop can do about it.

Read the little green book, and the guidance on the FMCSA website. Multiple log books are REQUIRED in some instances (i.e. if you drive for multiple carriers, EVERY carrier needs an ORIGINAL log page detailing how you've spent ALL of your time (even while driving for the other carrier(s)). Those ORIGINAL log book pages must have the individual carrier's information on it...each carrier gets their own log book sheet with their info on it...and it is kept in that carrier's home terminal's time zone...meaning one log book's graph grid might be an hour or two or three off of the other carrier's log book. Your time is your time...doesn't matter WHO you are driving for, you need to log your time the same across ALL of your log books, adjusted only for time zones.

Failure to sign the form does NOT prevent an officer from writing you a ticket, because the log book needs to be current to your last change of duty status...whether it is signed or not.

If you're driving for multiple carriers, it is required. NOWHERE is it prohibited. As long as you aren't falsifying them, you can draw up as many copies as you like, for whatever reason you see fit. Just don't falsify, and make sure they all match up, and there is nothing an officer can do about it.

Good luck with keeping multiple logs there...

If circumstances (as specified on the green book) require/demand it, then yes...

Cite the regulation which prohibits multiple log books.

    I'll wait.

Only thing you'll find is prohibitions on falsification, demands that they be kept current, etc. Nothing prohibits multiple copies being drawn up.

I was with Quality Carriers when they went to elogs and was told to keep doing paper until they determined I was ok with the elogs. I got pulled over for a Level II inspection. I handed the cop my paper logs and kept my mouth shut about the elogs. Never, and I do mean never will I give a cop any kind of information that I am not specifically ask to provide.
