2025 is in 3 years. Theres only been 1 company that has even done a single trip fully autonomous . and it was only 90 miles, at night, in perfect conditions. With a chase car in front and a chase car in back...

The video I saw was daytime not night time. Another nail in the coffin is if Elon can get star link on trucks. He said he’s gonna do it. When it does happen, you have real world telemetry from teslas feeding the tractor and tractor to 4 wheelers. Just think about that.

as for the guys talking about let’s see it do this or that, you need to understand the first phase is going to be the easy routes.

I don’t care what any of the fresh faced IT whiz kids say. I haven’t seen a computer controlled toaster that will work right 2 times in a row yet. Sorry, 100ft/sec doesn’t leave any room for “please wait, processing”. Maybe their time would be better spent getting the engines to run consistently for a start. They’ve had 35yrs so far to get that right and ####ed it up.

Of course they will try to get rid of the drivers, after all, the drivers are the resource drain in the discussions of upper management, everyone who has any wisdom knows this. Imagine a company that doesn't need driver recruiters, hotel bills, medical bills, driver pay, free food & clothing, etc., just to get a driver on board with the company and keep them there. Getting rid of drivers, would mean more money for the upper management types, as there is always that bigger mansion and faster luxury car for them to add to their material collection. To believe anything less is just not facing reality of the human condition and the greed factor. No matter how much smoke they blow about praising drivers, for now they need you.

I believe that for this autonomous truck reality to work, everything on the road has to be autonomous. You cannot have people doing the driving, as people do dumb things all the time on the road. That is why they are pushing electric vehicles and 5G technology and the internet of things.

Of course, the future of trucking will be pioneered by the mega's, as they have the deep pockets and gov't grant ability to pull it off. No matter how much they claim to praise the drivers, they hate your guts. They tolerate you because they need you, for now.
