This is just a public service announcement. May be common knowledge, but I thought I'd share my experience.

I run a handful of heavy trucks in my construction business. My newest is a Freightliner 108.

The Freightliner recently shut down on the highway and had to be towed to the dealer. Turned out to be an issue with the DEF system, requiring replacement of the DEF header.

The first time I spoke with the service writer, I asked her about warranty. She said sorry, but you're out of warranty period (standard warranty is 2 years, 36,000 miles) In the back of my mind, I thought there was an extended warranty on the emissions system, but I was not sure so I let it go.

Long story short, thanks to a card that was in the truck documents, along with some internet research, I confirmed that the truck did have a federally-mandated warranty for 5 years or 100,000 miles on the emissions system. I'm well under both numbers.

The final straw, on my fourth call, was an admission from the dealer that it might be under warranty, but they could not release the truck until warranty coverage was determined. At that point, I got pretty terse with the guy and made it clear that I was not going to drop this issue. He put me on a hold (for the second time) and finally said "Sir, come get your truck".

PIcked up the truck on Monday, no charge for any of the work, but no apologies for the crappy treatment either.
