If you think you may want tankers, get the TWIC card. Many tanker companies require TWIC because you need it for entry to sea ports, military bases, chemical plants. Google for nearest TWIC office. This is seperate from the CDL endorsements, so you can apply for that now.

LOL! Glad you seen it as joke.
The part about the two letters is good though...it works. And as China said; retired is retired as well.

I've had a couple months to explain in the past; my kids were still school age....so I used the excuse that one of my kids was getting in trouble at school all the time, and I took some personal time off to get them on the straight and narrow, and we lived off the wife's income.
It was a lie...just wanted a couple months off the road. Gotta get creative.

I worked at a steel mill for 32 years. They offered me a buy out that I couldn't refuse. For 2 years I babysat my grandkids, did lots of fishing, camping and traveling. Then I decided to get my CDL and go back to work. When I was interviewing for a driving job, the interviewer asked me about the 2 year gap in employment. I told her just what I wrote here. She smiled, nodded her head and hired me.

i had an employment gap ( having a kid ) all i was asked to do is have someone who knew me, write a letter stating what i was doing during that time and have it notarized....that was some time back and only one company ever asked for it....

I do short gigs often and they pay well so I have many gaps. About 41 gigs in 6 years. Was not an issue when I got hired on with Kuperus. They were very understanding.
