These are military ISO containers. In the "Pratical Securement" handbook it states that only EMPTY containers can be held in place with straps per DOT regs, was just curious how many ha hauled them with just straps??
I'm prob just going to have them butt them together and I'll put a chain to stop forward and rearward movemt and then 6 straps

shc, this is a funny thread. the empty military cans we haul all the time with just straps, 3 straps on the 20 footer will be just fine, the 20 will weigh around 5,000 apiece. th empty weight will be printed on the container.
there is no need to chain the empty cans. and you are correct it is perfectly legal to secure them that way when empty.
on loaded ones , we chain the ends ( run chain from side of trailer to the other and put binder in the middle of trailer and one strap across the top) and one strap if ya like.
run 3 straps on each and ride, leave the chains on the rack when they are empty.
and this is a easy load, i laughed when the joker said it was a crap load. -
Then each can gets three straps......
CDOT loves that...... -
