Empty trailers take longer to STOP

I am having a hard time agreeing with the original post on this subject. I guess if you use some qualifiers...

 

I did... you've got issues.

 

You do the best you can and try to be as safe as you can. I'd much rather drive L.A. than Las Vegas during traffic hours. It's understandable that at times you will be too close from the vehicle in front. When you leave a space the traffic fills it up. You don't want to be on the bumper of another vehicle so you back off. But you'll never have the space that is taught so a little common sense is required here. In my line of work there's no place for aggressive driving and I'm another that you'll never convince it's safe. But what is aggressive driving to me might mean something different to others. All I know if you stand out and gain attention from your driving then that attention may be from a boss and then you're looking for another job.

 

I've hardly ever had stops in Vegas, but I've driven through there lots and I like being able to use the express lanes (unless they've signed that now).

 

That's because the original poster is an instructor at a CDL mill and has no real world experience. All he know how to do is quote "the book". His only point of this thread was because I've called him out on this nonsense before and he got booty hurt about it. You'll find you'll have a hard time agreeing with much of what he says... it's ok.... you're soooo not alone.

 

i have 20+ years experience and the school i work at is NOT a CDL Mill..

it was in the CDL manual for beginners which, of which many times those questions are on the tests they must take to get the CDL permit..as stated by the video that supports the empty trailer stopping distance, the narrator says:

"now i know some of you old timers might disagree with this or you never heard of such a thing, but the federal government and the states came up with the questions AND THE ANSWERS THEY WANT TO HEAR, and you just have to answer those questions their way, if you want to pass the CDL written tests"...

i will not tell my students differently from the FMCSA books, or FMCSA approved videos...and other FMCSA training materials.

i can't when it's all there in black and white and on the video screen..

further, the states have a chart, of stopping distances, which supports those claims, i did not make those up either...

believe what ever you wish, you're such an "expert" yourself....(or claim to be, and actually, your signature speaks volumes of you as well..."having NO idea of what's going on"..)....

i'll stand by what i have to teach them, and i'll let the CDL Mills do it their way, which is keeping the revolving door spinning on the idiots THEY produce....

 

11 years trucking and Fact- No loaded trailer i have ever pulled stopped quicker/shorter than any empty trailer. Theoretically maybe, but actually Not a chance.
