What about if I have air tabs installed... will it take longer to stop because of less wind resistance?

I don't have any dogs in this race but Noticed you're out of West Texas. If you don't mind, where are you based out of and what do you haul? I'm in Midland and i haul diesel. Anyhow, You can pm if need be due to the circumstances.

All right, ya sucked me in, in jest you ask, but I've wondered...

Does the increased stability due to the airtabs allow for harder braking at higher speeds? Less of the tires total traction is used up resisting the yaw induced by the trailing vortices, so theoretically there's more traction available for braking. I guess if you have enough brake to take advantage of the increased grip, your decel rate at speed may actually be higher IF the extra braking force is greater than the reduced wind resistance. I don't recall the lower limit of effectiveness for the tabs, but I'd guess that below 40 or 45 there wouldn't be much effect either way.

Be an interesting test... smart@##! :biggrin_25522::biggrin_2559::biggrin_25522:

I know what the word ALWAYS means. But thanks for your concern about my reading comprehension.

I wasn't attempting to prove or disprove reruns statement. I was merely making a general comment. Got it?

I've never made a statement that all new students are idiots. So please get your facts straight. I have made the statement that the first place anybody gets any training is at the schools. I also believe that more than just getting the students a CDL should be taught. He brought up a book statement about the stopping distance of loaded vs empty trailers and I believe it's out dated information. I have had experience with a large over size truck before and after the ABS system came out. I believe now there are cases when an empty will stop shorter than a loaded trailer. As long as it stays on the ground it will. If a student can not be told an item may be different when they get out there and only say what's in the book then maybe those are the idiots you are refering to.

Makes you wonder if A HOT FUDGE SUNDAE will melt faster than a sundae without HOT fudge on it.

    what i bolded and underlined...

yes, the books, videos ARE OUTDATED, but it is what it is..the states STILL TEST the out dated ways....hell they still have questions regarding the trailers with out spring brakes, or the front brake limiting valve..!!

we have to teach then the way the books. videos, and the states TEST THEM.....if we detract off of that, the student fails.....

usually what i will tell my students is this, "get your license, then i'll tell you"....because if they are in school and still learning and i tell them DIFFERENTLY from the books, that's cause for problems when they go for their tests...the states test THEIR WAY, not my way, or ANYONE ELSE's way.......

    it's the way it is......

and the books ALL SAY and the videos ALL SAY, that an empty tractor-trailer rig will TAKE LONGER to stop....give the state ANYTHING DIFFERENT from what THEY WANT TO HEAR......and the student fails....that's life in the educational end of this industry. you gotta play by THEIR RULES, NOT MINE, YOURS, or ANYONE ELSE's......

any student RIGHT NOW in school will have (or should have) the CDL manual from thier state....i defy ANYONE here to say that the CDL manual they have will say anything different.

you would all be surprised (or maybe not) at how fast a student becomes confused when in school. they have way too much to learn in a short period of time, and by the way, their attention span isn't too long, as all they are thinking about is getting behind the wheel, so reading, writing and arithmetic ISN'T something they FOCUS ON.. teach them one thing (different from the book) and tell them they got homework to do, then they read the book, messes them up to no end. in a school setting you got to "stay the course" as it's presented and outlined.

it's the way it is.....play ball, or go home crying......
