After doing a few favors locally at the terminal and proving to be a good employee over the months.. I like to think that my people will watch my back now and it will be me stealing the outsider noob empties going forward not the other way around
If you feel the need to hoard an mt at your home terminal, your relationship isn't as good as you believe it is. Besides it's my terminal I'd confirm the mt and the shop won't check nor care where the trailer was last attached.
I don't understand the pushback regarding company drivers and empty trailers here. Not my truck. Not my trailer. Duh. Maybe stop kissing company ### for a minute and see another perspective. Losing and empty that was fought for can mean the difference between 10 or 200 a day and getting home or not. Be a contrairian all day and kiss company ### for no pay or respect on the internet. Good for you!
See your selfish butt doesn't get it ... By hoarding that trailer when you're not under load, you're costing another driver that $200 or keeping them from getting home on time. And if you are under load with that trailer attached to you, there isn't a DM that will take it off of you. The only time I did see that happen was an extreme trailer shortage and the TM was prioritizing by pu time ... Even if you were dispatched, he would pull a trailer off of you to give to someone with an earlier pu time.
Just tell the "company" there isn't any empty trailers and you want layover pay. They will never change thier methods untill it become a bigger problem for them.
Me, me, me... Is that all it is to you? Typical of the last couple generations, and do you fall into that category? You do a few favors and so then expect special treatment. And if not you fully intend to steal another persons empty because they are new here? I have over 8 years here. I have done favors and have proven to be a good employee, but I expect no special treatment in return. I kiss no whatever, and I do not expect anyone to kiss mine. My point is... We should all be fair to one another, not try to take advantage of the other.
Nope. The company that refuses to get enough trailers for that area is costing that driver $200. If it was just occasionally that's one thing. Back in my Swift days there were a few terminals that I knew there was no way I was getting an empty. That is the problem, not the driver trying not to get screwed by the company.
Why do you keep using the word HOARD? Hoard by definition means more than one! I just want one, NOT HOARDING! I saw some hoarding the other day at a Church & Dwight.. At least 25 empties as evidenced by the open doors and they had a sign up,"not releasing empties to Swift drivers at this time",.. Why? Just because. Cost me roughly $35, had to go to my least fave term and beg for one after waiting in line 45 minutes. The food truck onsite cheered me up a bit but still. Driver's are not hoarding, customers are, and it costs us time money and aggrevation so I do not apologize for making every effort to hold onto to mine. If it was hourly pay totally different story.
