I carry tools, and the parts and pieces can be bought. Heck, NAPA and many other parts stores that make deliveries to local shops will usually run the parts out to you as long as you pay with a credit card over the phone for what you're needing.

If the company insisted upon pressing on even if it placed the lives and safety records of its employees in jeopardy instead of fixing a relatively simple problem, I would be looking for another company. There is NEVER a good reason to put lives and equipment at risk like that.

Frameless dumps often don't have the landing gear that many other types of trailers have. NO way they can handle the load on them. Would fold instantly. Therefore....assisted dumping is necessary.

As for the OP, yes I've had that happen a couple times in 11 years. And once, and ONLY once, thank goodness...I've had a hydraulic hose blow about 1/2 way up and still loaded with ag lime. Came down hard. And fast. Scared the crap outta me. And COVERED the truck and some of the interior (since the windows were down) with hydraulic fluid.

Plus, most dump sites are not on concrete, so even if the trailer legs could support the weight of the load, the ground underneath probably could the ground underneath probably couldn't.

Huh. And I thought that my idea of charging another truck's empty air tanks so he could get out from under the trailer (compressor failure) by connecting the emergency line glad hands together was innovative...

There is never any reason good enough to ever justify dumping this way. Period. Let it down, go somewhere, fix it. Even if it means dumping the next day or Monday. Trailers with drop legs can be dropped if done carefully but it is highly recommended to not do it.

Not to argue with you, but...if I've got a load on that's gonna freeze up on me over night or over the weekend, I'm gonna do anything and everything (safely) to get that load off. Not a CHANCE I'm gonna shovel out 22 or more tons.
