I work on the exact same trucks you speak of and many of them are Ryder fleet trucks. I am here in south Texas. We turn on progressive shift and set it at 1450 in lower gears and 1550 in higher gears and set the speed limit to 68. We gross 84k everyday and only loaded there and empty back to the quarry and these trucks generally average 5.5 or so. Keep clean air filters and fuel filters in them. They are 3.73 ratio trucks with 10 speeds and they are all day cabs. They are pulling bellies and ends

That is great info, thank you. 14Ls? Do you leave everything else Ryder specs? How many HP? If i can get over 5 mpg out of these Detroits, I will keep them forever. -
Yes they are all 14l with egr and they are all 455 hp
WrightMat Thanks this. -
I can easily get over 6 with a 97 379 3406e 39'east frame, with a lot of hp. Well over 600. 15sp 3.55 rears. If I keep it under 65 on the big road. If I do local I still can stay in the mid 5 mpg range. But I am easy on the get go.
corneileous and WrightMat Thank this. -
We see right around six with our older more experienced drivers, that's with 3406e cats.
-
We also see much better fuel mileage on our new trucks with dd13 motors with our older drivers that learned to drive before electronics.

I got a 99 379, M-11 Cummins with a 9-speed and I usually stay around 5.7, 5.9 mpg. That's pullin a 38 foot Roughneck enddump with an electric rollover tarp weighing between 80 and 82k.

My 444 pulling 88,000 was getting 5.25 running country back roads. Now I see 4.75 a lot of stop and go on my new routes. I pull a 28/24 east.
